How does one get started in producing music for a living or just working in recording industry and working with music. Cus by the looks of things, college doesn't seem like it's gonna really help get you connected.
i think college WOULD be precisely the place to start. teachers have connections, you'd get to do a few concerts, meet people. 2/3 of what college is good for is networking.
yeah but......
i'm in college............. teachers don't know anyone that'll help me unless i'm looking for gigs and even still not much help.

Is this your sophomore year? Are you paying your own tuition?
Does your college have a vocational placement office?
can you play an accordion?
If you're going to school in East Jesus Nebraska move to LA or NYC. You need to do internships at music companies. Make a list of companies you would like to work for and see if they have any summer intern programs (their addresses should be on the web). Don't just email, call and find out the name of someone to write to. Competition is tough for these spots, but it's worth the effort. You have to start at the bottom and learn the businees from the inside. Over time you can make contacts and work your way up. A good general liberal arts degree is fine, good computer and communication skills are important. Talk your teachers and see if they will write letters of recommendation for you.
