I own a small gallery and am looking to save a few bucks by building a few walls myself. I'm wondering if anyone knows of anywhere that I can get instructions or a design. I would like to build a wall in a cross (+) that would be freestanding and built on wheels for mobility. Total length and width would be 8'X8' and no higher than 12'. I would like them to be as thin as possible but still be able to support at least 50lbs as I will be hanging framed paintings on them.

Your local Home Depot or Lowe's might have classes in how to build
wall partitions.

I have a useful book called The Basics of Carpentry. Was $10 at Barnes and Noble.

Sorry, maybe I should clarify. I have built walls before. It's the configuration I'm unsure of. I want to ensure stability in the cross design.

ballantyne, the best source for the construction design you week is to go to your local Construction-Contractor book store. They have hundreds of books on how to construct anything you might want.

I don't know where you live, but this one in Florida might give you a clue:
http://www.contractorsbookstore.com/allprods.php

Look in your phone book to find the closest contractors' book store to where you live. Plan on spending an hour or more browsing through their books. The sales clerk can direct you to books having plans or requirements for building portable interior walls.

You can use Google to ask if there is a store in your city.

Let us know if you find what you want.

Would you have access to the roof/ceiling rafters to use as an additional securing point while the display is up?

I want them to be mobile. I do not want to secure them to the ceiling.

I understand that you want them to be mobile. For a wall 12' high however, you'd need a foot on them that extends out at least 6' front and back to leave them freestanding or you run the risk of it toppling on your viewers.

If you have the ability to temporarily secure them to the ceiling using guywires while the display is up then you can eliminate the front footing and reduce the rear footing to 2'-3'.

Once the show is done with you could disconnect the wires and be on your way.

Basically what I'm looking for is something like this:

Or to hang walls from the ceiling on tracks. I made a mistake the wall height should be 8 feet not 12.
