Are French Guiana, Martinique and Guadeloupe considered to be actually parts of France? Or are they dependent states with status like Puerto Rico? If I go to Martinique have I visited France? Can you fly from Guadeloupe to Paris without a passport?

Guadaloupe etc are to France as Hawaii is to the USA

Quote:
Visas are not required of citizens of the US, Canada or the European Union. Citizens of the EU need an official identity card, passport or valid French carte de séjour. Citizens of most other foreign countries, including Australia, need a valid passport and visa for France. All visitors officially require a return or onward ticket.

As Fresco said:

- The overseas departments of Martinique, Guadeloupe, Réunion, and French Guiana have the same political status as metropolitan departments and are integral parts of France, similar to how Hawaii is a state and an integral part of the United States. They are represented in the National Assembly, Senate and Economic and Social Council, elect a Member of the European Parliament and also use the euro as their currency.

Overseas departments of France

And yes, if you have visited Guadeloupe, you have visited France.

People from Guadeloupe and other European citizens can fly to Paris with only an ID card.

Americans and others need a passport...
