My Air Conditioner

My ac has been running great for the last month but has been running hard with tempatures of up to 102 degrees. It's a Fedders 7,500 btu. Any ideas on what might be wrong since it's throwing out air slightly cooler then from my fans. Water is still dripping from th ac. Thanks for any help!

The load on your A/C is too much. You need to go to a 12,000 BTU for more efficient cooling. WHen it doesn't cool well, this suggests that the A/C is working at capacity, but not efficiently.

Excessive water output probably due to high humidity.

The filter is clean. I have weather bug installed on my computer, it is saying 78 degrees where I live, the air is coming out cooler but not much.
My ac problem didn't start until it hit over a 100 degrees.

Could be you expect it to cool beyond its capacity. The way a building is constructed will have a lot to do with that. If it cools about fifteen to twenty degrees cooler than outside, it's doing its job, in the average situation.

When the temperatures here were in the high 80's and low 90's it was working great. When it went into the high 90's to 102 is when i starting having a problem. It's very humid here now but the temperature is only 80 degrees. The ac is not much different then using my fans.

Victor, it was just too friggin' humid here the past couple days. Even this morning, the temp is only 77 but it's like a sauna outside.
That machine can only displace so much water.
If I were you, I'd go easy on it....because should it break down you'll be much much worse off!

Victor

Need more info
How old is your AC?
How much space are you trying to cool? - 7,500 BTU is a 1 room AC unit - doors need to be closed
How long since the coils were cleaned out?
Place a thermometer in front of the blower outlet - air coming out should be about 10 degrees cooler than room temp

Can make a better estimate of the problem with this info

This depends on the SIZE of the room...Would you use a 7500 btu to cool a room the size of your average football field?

Nope that won't work.
My living room is about the size of a football field, and when I only used one 7500btu a/c to cool it, all the servants were dripping sweat on the marble floors.
Disgusting. Rolling Eyes

 Laughing

Victor hasn't been around in a couple weeks; I hope he's ok.

you're right, but not many people have a room the size of a football field AND use a window AC

notice I ask how much space he is trying to cool

7,500 BTU is enough for the average room, though admittedly not all rooms
