Rainsoft units in UK - need to ID model of R.O Unit

Hi,

I have a Rainsoft water softner system with reverse osmosis system. I am trying to identify the exact system in order for me to order replacement filers. For the same reason as some have you have found that they can be expensive to order direct / get engineer in to do a five minute job.

Anyway I have taken the serial numbers off each unit:

The main water treatment system (?? - Gold Series - Water Conditioning System)

Model: AQC 6055 V 5076
0 HZ

Serial: 562689
MFG Date: 06/19/03

The QRS Water Filtering System

QRS 618 ??- Part missing ( I think)

Serial Number: 562917

MFG Date: 06/20/03

UF SERIES Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System

If I were sold correctly I have either UF10C, UF22T and UF50T?

The pre-filter housing states that the cartridge filter should be replaced with 9564.

The post filter has no housing now (did do in the past - same white housing as pre-filter) is fitted with a cartridge filter called PENTEK GS-10.

It would really be good to find out what version of the RO I have. Especially the RO membrane.

Any help would be great.

Cheers

This place should have the replacement filters and membrane that fit your UF SERIES Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System.

The QRS is an in & out filter, probably Coconut shell carbon (GAC). It should be rebed every 36 months or so.

The Gold series is your softener. It needs quality salt and very little maintenance.

Hi H2O_MAN,

Thanks for the link.

Q1. When you mean rebed, I assume you mean to change this filter?
Q2. Do you by any chance know the part number for the filter I would need?
Q3. Is it easy to do?
Q4. Do you know what model RO I have based on the information I have provided earlier? UF10C, UF22T and UF50T?

Cheers for your help.

Cheers

Sorry, From the link it is a UF 50, but all these filters would fit by system.

MAC, to rebed one must dump the contents of the the tank and replace it with new.

Cheers H2O_MAN

This is all new to me and have just googled Coconut shell carbon (GAC).

First Link
http://www.ohiopurewaterco.com/shop/customer/home.php?cat=317

With you now, so I have to dump the Coconut shell carbon (GAC) and replace with new. Just out of interest what size do you think I would need? Also this has never been carried out by Rainsoft and we have had t he unit for 5 years.

Also the area in the UK was hit by floods and have been without water for 8 days and now have water that we cannot drink, use dishwasher, only for bathing and washing clothes (for safety, until the water company confirms if bacteria had got into the water network)

If the water company confirms that bacteria has entered the system (if the main unit was on bypass since we had no water, but left RO on, do I need sanitise the RO system.

Asking all this because Rainsoft might be asking for £300.00 worst case about $640 dollars approx to santise the system and replace filters.

Also the hyperlink you gave is that for membrane / filters that can be used in chlorinated water such as ours

Cheers

I am aware of your recent flooding, my hovercraft buddies have been posting rescue pictures on the forums.

In your particular situation I would pay the extra $ and have the RainSoft dealer service and sanitize everything.

Since your water is pre-filtered through a whole house GAC filter you can use a non-chlorinated water membrane.

Cheers.

Thanks,

Would this not do the trick?

Ebay - Sanitiser

It sounds straight forward to complete and I believe would not damage the system?

I have never used the product, but I did find this:

Liquid Sanitizer Concentrate ( 0.5 ounces/packet) for sanitizing Water Softeners, RO Units, and Water Coolers.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE - Water Softener Application: Mix the 1/2 oz. Packet of Sani-System with 4 gallons of water and then pour into salt tank. Manually regenerate the softener. Double the dosage for heavily fouled units.

RO ( reverse osmosis ) Units: Turn off RO system, drain storage tank and remove all filters and membrane. Pour 1/2 ounce Packet of Sani-System into the empty pre-filter housing. Reconnect and turn on incoming water. After the holding tank is full ( takes about 5 minutes ), let the system stand idle for 60 minutes. Drain Holding tank. Before the system is put back into service, flush the system with water to assure sanitizing solution is rinsed thoroughly from system. Re-Install filters and membrane occurring to manufacturer's instructions.

Don't know your background, except that I know you have given plenty of good advice where H2O is concerned.

If you could not afford the £300.00 would you have a go at Sanitising your system and replacing the filters on the RO unit (if you had Manufacturing Engineering Experience, but non to do with plumbing)?

The instructions look clear, I would give it a go.
