Water Softener Recommendations

Reply Thu 2 Aug, 2007 06:50 pm
Hydro-Quad Rep just left my home. And I did NOT sign the contract wanted to do some research.

We do want a whole house system, for 2 adults and 5 kids.

Any system recommendations?

You should be proud that you did not sign up with H-Q -- I'm pround of you Exclamation

Seek out your local EcoWater dealer if you want the very best for the 7 of you.

H20 Man thank you for your quick response.

Have any idea on how much a system for our family would cost?

It depends on your water and what region of the country you live in and what it takes to install the equipment.

Your local dealer can give you an idea of what you need and what it cost.

Rainsoft, Hydro Quad and Ecowater are in about the same price range. All are extremely high priced and none are worth a 1/4 of it.

You can get better quality for thousands of dollars less by buying online.

If you can't install it on your own, hire a plumber or water treatment dealer to install it for $200-$450 and pocket the rest of the savings.

Or you can save many hundreds to a grand plus by buying from a local independent dealer selling softeners using Autotrol, Clack, Erie or Fleck control valves.

I suggest you need much more info before you buy anything from anyone. You can learn how to size a softener Edit [Moderator]: Link removed

I suggest a softener with the Clack WS-1 control valve, especially if you want to be a DIYer and replace a part to repair your softener when needed. That's rather than waiting around for a local national brand service guy to show up and charge you whatever they want for parts you can't buy anywhere except through them... Plus a hefty service charge.

There is no valve easier and quicker to repair than the Clack WS-1. Simple fast repair was designed into it.

Call it what you like, but it's a complete system that is superior to anything else on the market including KENMORE, Whirlpool, GE and North Star.

You also tell people it is a great investment. And that the price is negotiable...

I saw a 5 year old Ecowater softener advertised in the local paper on Wed. They were asking a reduced price of $50.

You should require undeniable proof before believing wild claims but.... he paid just over $600 for it delivered to Edgewood NM three years ago, not 3-5 thousand.

Yea, but I got a blue resin tank instead of the almond tank I ordered. Never did get a receipt or any warranty in writing... kinda like buying a water softener that "fell off the back of the truck"

You should buy it because it's way better than what you sell. Of course you will have to install it yourself...

You conveniently forget to mention the tank was totally covered with an insulated jacket and its cap and all anyone in your garage could see of the color of the tank was a 1/4" at the tank's neck under the control valve.....

And don't forget how you moaned about the jacket having a mark on it from shipping and you could have turned it around toward the back and no one could have seen it but.... you whined and whimpered and bawled so I sent you a free expensive slip over jacket at my expense to replace it. I asked for but never got proof that you put it on.

Your canceled check was your receipt. Recall I had your softener shipped to you with nothing more than a scanned and emailed copy of your check, before I received your check or deposited it or it cleared?

The warranty info is in writing on my and the various component manufacturers' web sites. I (and possibly my supplier) have your name and date of purchase on file.

Had the softener fallen off a truck, you're the kinda guy that would take it instead of calling the company or telling the driver and when caught with it deny it was you and blame it on someone else.

Oh wait, here's a picture of your softener with a piece of pipe insulation hiding the blue color spot.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is an excellent example of how not to install a water softener. Can you ID the problem?

The problem is huge and could have easily been avoided if an H2O professional had sold and installed the system.
The seller of this equipment should be ashamed.

Leave H2O sales, installations and service to the professionals and avoid problems.

H2O treatment is not a Do It Yourself project.

Ordered almond resin tank, got blue, you refused to exchange for the correct color.

Turn it around to the back so the unsightly seam is in the front... brilliant

NOT whined and wimpered and bawled, complained about my order NOT being what I ordered and you did the backstroke and did not make it right.

Ordered almond resin tank, got blue, you refused to exchange for the correct color. Almond tank cover (that I paid for) arrived damaged in shipping and so did the relacement your drop-shippers sent. Since you refused to get me the almond colored resin tank I ordered it seemed like you should do something right.

Whether the mistake in color was a case of Mad Cow or simply your drop-shippers sending what they damn well pleased it was your responsibility to deliver exactly what I ordered. Any deviation from what I ordered should have been submitted for my approval BEFORE the WRONG color was shipped. THAT is how business is done by professionals.

Your customer service leaves so much to be desired that I can't bring myself to look at the softener I bought from you.

Professional, ethical businesses provide their customers with itemized receipts and printed warranty terms.

I'd never have even thought of that but it sure explains your ethical and moral stand on things.

justajerk installed it July 2003 after buying it from me days before. The softener has never had a problem. The installation is done to all plumbing codes that I'm familiar with across the US. The elbow plumbing connectors swivel. The flexible corrugated SS tubing meets every code and are made for water heater and water treatment equipment installations.

BTW, it cost him less than $700 with installation materials, and it's a 1.5 cuft (48K) softener with gravel under bed, salt grid, safety brine system and UPS delivery. I include very detailed assembly, set up, programming and installation instructions. And great service, I just got off the phone, on a Sunday afternoon, with a customer in NC installing a chlorination system, filter and softener. He had a programing question on the filter valve.

So enlighten us with what you see as a "huge problem".

Well if I can't see anything wrong, having installed them for 20 years and having seen many other installations done by what you call "professionals", how do you suppose someone that has never installed any is going to know what you THINK you see as a HUGE problem?

Could it be that in your opinion, plumbing should be squared off and straight and if it isn't, it's a HUGE PROBLEM? If so I bet you also mistakenly think that looks are more important than being practical.
