Could you post a picture of the control valve on your softener?
2001 was a transition year, you could have a Brass Q or a Gold series.
If the unit has a 9V battery, make a note of the setting programed into the computer.
Unplug the valve and remove the battery. Let it sit for an hour.
Install a new battery and plug the unit in. Press quiet alarm and re enter all of your settings.
