Something like four years ago, I had to do some software development in Java. I was working with Java applications, not applets. I found printing from Java 1.1 and 1.2 to be very difficult to program. It was certainly not as simple as a sequential set of print instructions ("print x at this location, now print y at this location,..... "). One was forced to view the process in a rather odd and not particularly simple way, although I no longer recall the exact details.
I haven't had to touch Java since then, but might again soon. Can anyone tell me if programming the creation of printed reports, etc. is still as bizarre in the latest Java incarnations, or is there a new simpler printing model now?
Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this matter.
The quick answer to the question you are asking is -- "no". Sun hasn't simplified the API. But then... printing is by nature a difficult task.
I am not sure exactly what you want to do... I recently used Jasper Reports which I found helpful for the reportting task I had.
Thanks. I'm not trying to do anything specific at this point, I just wondered if in the four years I've been away from the product they had simplified that horrible printing model. I guess not.
