Yes that's because I was brought up in the 1950's when we were taught that everything is a simple clear-cut issue, but later generations have been brought up by lefty pinko teachers to think NOTHING is a clear-cut issue and that there are always two sides to everything that must be debated and discussed blah blah.
As a result kids nowadays grow up to be indecisive, unsure of themselves and with brains like mush..Smile

Employment and housing is okay? Seems to us across the pond that there's problems aplenty in the Old Dart.

Incidentally the Scots want to break away from England and be independent, so if that happens we'll have to change this thread's title to "The English Thread" so that foreigners such as McTag can't post here..Smile
Incidentally there are thousands of Jocks living in England, so will they bugger off back to Scotland if it becomes independent, or stay here and be classed as foreign immigrants on English soil, ha ha..Smile

If Scotland becomes independent, do they also loose their right to live on that island in the Atlantic Ocean off the north-western coast of continental Europe, which is called Britain or Great Britain?

No, but they may reconstruct Hadrian's wall, to keep those pesky Poms in their place.

All through the Cold War years, English warships and combat aircraft were stationed in Scottish ports and air bases to repel any Russian amphibious task force that might come down from Murmansk to invade Scotland.
But when Scotland becomes independent the English will pull out and the jocks will have to defend themselves.
Might be a bit difficult though because the Scots haven't got a navy or air force..Smile

Which totally explains why Hadrian (with the largest army in the developed world) needed to build a wall against the Picts and Scots, right Walter?

@Builder,
That Hadrian built that wall against the Scots and Pics is only one theory - which actually isn't followed today anymore.

Map of Roman legionary camps at about 80AD (We were confronted with quite a few more Roman troops.)

(I've been to the exhibition "Hadrian: Empire and Conflict" and various seminars in the British Museum in 2008, so I do know a bit about that ... with the kind help of "His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales' Teaching Institute" Wink )

@Walter Hinteler,
The map you posted does not show the wall, and you offer no alternative explanation as to why he built it.

?Are you doubting that it was built, Walter?

http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/hadrians_%20wall.htm

Hadrian's Wall is 117 kilometers long and is built in stone. In places it is six meters high and three meters wide - enough for two soldiers to do sentry duty side-by-side. Every Roman mile (about 1500 meters) a mile-castle was built which housed twenty soldiers. Turrets guarded by soldiers were built every 500 meters. Major forts such as the one at Housesteads, were built along the wall at every eight kilometers. These could accommodate between 500 and 1000 Roman soldiers. Housesteads had a hospital, granary, barracks, workshop and washroom/toilets built. Stored grain was kept dry by the use of a hypocaust - this way, soldiers always a reasonable supply of food. A Roman road called the Stanegate was built to supply the soldiers based at Hadrian's Wall.

All the building was done by the Roman soldiers themselves. They were trained to do this and the army had its own skilled engineers who designed the wall. That so much of the Wall has survived is a testament to their building skills.

The Picts nearly destroyed the wall three times but on every occasion it was rebuilt by the Romans. For nearly 250 years, Hadrian's Wall was patrolled and guarded - right on the very edge of the Roman Empire.

Not at all! I've seen it and have not only seen seen the exhibition but got educated about it by some quite wellknown experts.

In Scotland, there's the Antonine Wall, btw, and the total length of "our" Limes Germanicus was 568 km (353 mi).

@Walter Hinteler,
Again, you offer no reason why it was built.

Historical records show that the Picts attempted to destroy it several times.

@Romeo Fabulini,
The way you were taught was clearly backward. That's why you spout so much bullshit.

Einstein showed that the world is a lot more complicated than people like you can comprehend. It's called progressive education for a reason, it moves us forward.

@Builder,
It was a border control (you do know about the gates in it, isn't it), used for collecting customs, to show the Imperial Roman magnitude and, of course, to protect the Roman (and auxiliary) troops.

The Antonine Wall was mainly a protection wall.

And some Pom git told you that? This wall was six metres tall, Walter. Stone structure wide enough to patrol the upper ramparts. Your story is weak as piss.

@Builder,
Apologies to the genuine English people on this thread, but Walter does need to get some facts to back up his theories.

And as an aside, my mother's family is from Kent, so I'm a pommy git as well.

@Builder,
That doesn't answer the question. It all depends on what side of the Medway she was born. East Maid Of Kent, West Kentish Maid.
