I don't know if he was British. His wife was black, on the show.

I think he was Lionel's decidedly un-hip dad.

The inside of the Oreo, I think George called him.

Honkey.

The paler aspect of the zebra...

Well we're movin on up, to the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up
To the east side
We finally got a piece of the pie.
Fish don't fry in the kitchen;
Beans don't burn on the grill.
Took a whole lot of tryin'
Just to get up that hill.
Now we're up in the big leagues
Gettin' our turn at bat.
As long as we live, it's you and me baby
There ain,t nothin wrong with that.
Well we're movin on up,
To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up
To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

I liked the show...the first time 'round. Then came endless re-runs and it became annoying. I always felt Cover was overshadowed by all the people around him on that show.

Rumor has it that he was born in Cleveland Ohio....

A few years ago when the media exposed Thomas Jefferson having fathered a child with his slave Sally Hemmings an editorial cartoon was published:

It was a drawing of Weezie and George happily clutching their suitcases, running toward Monticello and singing "We're movin on up..."

And that brings up an observation: The Willis' were childless. I have a feeling their mixed marriage was enough for the network. They didn't want the public to perceive that a mixed couple might actually fornicate.

S***, there goes my childless thought, the daughter didn't make appearences too often, or did she? Despite my mistake, she was not memorable.
