@panzade,
I like a good macchiato doppio too, and there un po' di schiuma is ok with me. I'm fibbing, I don't call it schiuma, had to look that up.

So has Starbucks stopped burning the coffee beans (and beating their wives?)?

@hingehead,
Ha! Me a heathen! Watering and milking down an expresso indeed.

An Italian would have a wobbly.

@Lordyaswas,
Only after 11am - coffee with milk in the mornings is still socially acceptable in Italy

And you said 'expresso' - you double heathen.

@Lordyaswas,
They do caffe lattes themselves but only in the morning, as far as I ever saw.
I still remember my first good cup of coffee, at age 48, what took me so long, in the Milan airport, where we were by mistake (long complicated story)... an early morning caffe latte.

My favorite to watch ordered (never tried it myself) was the early morning work force requesting espresso corretto, usually remediated with grappa, some time before 6 a.m. That was in Siena.

@ossobuco,
Very similar 6am experience in France, with a bunch of French cattle farmers.
The French equivalent of expresso, a glass of Marc and a large bowl of onion soup, with crusty bread.

My breath smelt like the devil's bottom for the rest of the dsy, but it was a wonderful experience.

@Lordyaswas,
I've tasted Marc, sipped if I remember, but forget what it tasted like. Our friend Harvey liked to have a wide variety of potables for guests. We, on the other hand, bought cheapo vino at Trader Joes.

They burn their regular coffee but their espresso bean is to die for...almost better than a "cortadito" on Calle Ocho in Miami.

@panzade,
You do? I think most wish I'd shuddup about the place. You were there 4x as many days as I was, all told. But I was an immediate (at 48) imprinting duckling, so I just can't help my storytelling ways.

Now then -

wearing: black tights, long sleeved long green tee, wrinkly but loved light yellow linen shirt. I'm inside, it's 55 outside here now, going down later this week.
hearing: Marley's Ghost, Across the River cd (old friend on the mandolin)

feeling: down and out
wanting: in lieu of my own mishugas* needs, world peace would be helpful
