Rainsoft Computer Problem

Recently, the settings box on our Rainsoft system would respond with an error message when trying to set the hardness button. All other input buttons worked.

Yesterday the local Rainsoft distributor sent a tech out to look at it. This fellow was new and seemed a little unsure. He proceeded to take unsecure the 2 circuit boards without unplugging the unit. Well as you probably imagined he touched the boards together and there was a minor flash and the fuse popped. Shocked

He then calls in and prices new boards for $360 plus $85 service call. Or they could replace my whole system for $2400 with a $2400 trade in on the old system. Or replace the computer unit and valves for $1200.

I really don't want to spend $360 on circuit boards (seems expensive) let alone the other upgades.

I figure the ststem to be about 9 years old (not the original owner) pictures attached.

Any help or suggstions would be appreciated.

Technician blew it
I would also contest the technicians neglect, anyone that knows anything about circuit boards knows, kill the power, touch a ground to protect the board from static discharge also. Weither the board was defective before, he certainly removed any possible identification of a problem. Also you may want to see if there are any places that can diagnose the board, and possibly repair it. At the very least put ad in paper for a good used valve for your Rainsoft water treatment system.

I have the same system, I picked my complete system up at an auction 6 years ago for $65.00, plumbed it in myself. So they are out there, just shop.

Hope this is a little help. But at the very least have an attorney send a letter to their shop of what you observed, they should step up to the plate.

Best of Luck.

The Q is obsolete. If the dealer will not repair it consider swapping out the entire valve for a modern metered valve.
