Why do you downrep?

Just been in a thread where people have downrepped for rudeness, which I understand, but also (it appears) for advice they don't agree with, which I don't understand so well.

The few times I have done this it has been because of spite and nastiness that was disruptive to the whole thread but I think dissenting opinions and differing takes on a topic are part of what we're here for.

@spikepipsqueak,
I myself downrep sometimes when I find things offensive, or contribute to little if anything, although I believe we all are prone to bias, and can downrep someone simply because they have a nickname such as "IamaBeleiberJustinlove4U"

Bias? Its basically a blend of experience and prejudice... I believe NONE is without the least bit of prejudice, simply because its linked to the way we learn, racists and such should of course practice the art of "unlearning" from time to time, we all should, but in particular racists and nazis.

I find it fairly easy to ignore people whom i consider offensive, so i don't vote on posts--except, of course, when it's the Wabbit or Lordy.

Seriously, though, i consider this a tempest in a teapot matter. There is at least one and maybe more members who go through the threads each morning (morning in North America) and vote down every, consecutive posts. Meh . . .
