@tsarstepan,
Raggle the rescue dog features on her owner's Christmas cards - here she's a turkey - with all the trimmings!

A story that I'm glad to see -

COURTESY PENINSULA HUMANE SOCIETY & SPCA
Claire Karoly Ard and Criss Ard, center, recently adopted the pit bull Zeus after he spent more than two years in the care of the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA.

A dog sheltered at the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA for more than two years went home with a Hayward couple Sunday, the organization’s officials have announced.

Claire Karoly Ard and Criss Ard took home a pit bull named Zeus after looking for a dog to adopt for more than a year. The Ard’s have a resident cat and wanted to be sure the dog they adopted would be a good match, according to humane society officials.

The humane society recently learned that Zeus was good with cats.

“We’ve already had several adventures and he’s settling into our home nicely,” Claire said.

“Zeus is the perfect older gentleman dog,” she said.

Zeus waited longer than any other dog to be adopted since the PHS & SPCA opened the Tom and Annette Lantos Center for Compassion in 2011, according to society officials. On average, dogs were getting adopted from the PHS & SPCA three weeks after being made available for adoption.

Zeus came into the care of the society in September 2012. His age and breed contributed to his long wait, society officials said.

Zeus’s previous owner surrendered him to the humane society because of a personal crisis and that person had provided good care for him, according to the society.

“I’m sure he’s grateful to finally be home, but really, in just a couple of days, he’s given us so much joy, love and snuggles that we’re the ones who are grateful,” Claire said.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My only experience with this it that one day my husband came home with an irish setter, about one year, skin and bones, in his truck, so we could find him a home. Of course, he found one for him when he parked. Our cats got along with him.

On the other hand, I know there can be problems.

@edgarblythe,
I'd say I do too, except that one was found on the railroad track as a puppy and one was found near starving in a lumber yard, and the yard guys said take him, please.

Pacco, highway corgi, spent a month in Sequoia Humane Society care before I found him. They told me to hurry. That wasn't as fancy as the San Mateo place, but I took the people as good. They advertised the dog photos on sundays in the local news, which is how my business partner saw it, told me, and I called.
I'd not known anything about them before, but the temporary rental place across the street from me had a corgi that barked all day (it seemed), left out in the yard fenced in with cars going by. I got to call him Sparky. Those people tended to be nurses who moved around, so Sparky wasn't there long. I like mutts, but because of Sparky I was open to a corgi with great eyes in a gray chamber when I did go to the pound.

Katy was a gift, basically. See avatar.

In Florida my dog Frankie weighed 100lbs, well since we moved he ballooned up to 110lbs, I believe it’s because he doesn’t get as much exercise, our back yard isn’t as large here. Well the Vet said we have to put Frankie on a diet so I’ve been cutting back on his food and what does he do this morning? Ate the whole bowl of cat food I put down. Mad
