BARTOW, Fla. (AP) - Employees of the "Dr. Phil" TV show have posted bail for a central Florida teenager who was behind bars, accused of taking part in a videotaped beating of another teen.

Producers were in the process of booking guests for a program about the case. But a spokeswoman for host Phil McGraw says by helping the girl post bond, staffers "went beyond" the show's guidelines. She says the program has helped guests in the past when they need financial assistance to come on the show, but she says bail went too far. As a result "Dr. Phil" is dropping the story.

Saw that on the TV machine this morning. The notoriety is sure to draw more young folks to do these filmed beatings.

I only saw it once, dys, but "Dr. Phil" seems to be in everyone's face
in the media. My favorite L.A. station whose morning DJ doesn't
like "Dr. Phil", tells us sometimes of Phil's media grabbing attention pleas, and then he (DJ) openly mocks him, much to our greatest delight.

I am glad that Dr. Phil is dropping the story. I also think that the staffer who posted the bail needs to be severely chastised, if not fired outright. Posting bail for a person accused of assault is giving teenagers a terrible message. Kids need to learn that actions have consequences.

... and that the consequence of beating someone is NOT an all-expenses-paid trip to be on a national TV show.

Well, I am sure the staffer was acting on behalf of Phil McGraw, and is
made the scape goat only now because of the negative media publicity.

McGraw was also in poor taste when he tried to confront Brittney Spears
when she was admitted to UCLA Medical.

Quote:
McGraw drew criticism earlier this year when he confronted troubled pop star Britney Spears at the UCLA Medical Center during a stay at the facility. At one point, McGraw had planned an episode of the "Dr. Phil" show about Spears, but quickly abandoned the idea. He has since apologized for discussing his visit publicly -- but not for going to see her.

Exactly.....There is no way staffers are going to put up cash for the show unless they figured they would get reimbursed at some point. I used to like Dr Phil, but as time goes on the more it looks like he has nothing to back up his rough and tough style. He is also acting like he is desperate, like he knows that his 15 minutes are up.
