....every time I leave my office for the night? Or can I just shut down my computer? If the computer shuts down does that mean my monitor stops running or do I need to pust the power button on my monitor every night before I go home?
Most modern monitors will go into standby if they don't detect a video signal.
Push the power button. It will save a little bit in electricity overnight.
why not put both the computer and monitor on a power bar and you can simply turn off the power bar to shut everything down at once.
if you were paying the electric bill, you would shut it down.
You know that the average PC uses almost the exact same amount of electricity that an AC uses if run 12 hours at 80 degrees?
they use an un godly amount of electricity oddly enough.
But, the best way to keep a computer is to turn everything off.
The monitor still produces small amounts of heat even in stand by mode.
And this can reduce the life of your monitor...... not significantly though..
I'm only talking about the monitor. I always shut my computer down....the monitor "looked" like it's turned off except the little LED light is always on at the bottom of the screen. SHould I be concern about that or is the monitor always off when the computer is shut down?

Where did you get this info? It certainly doesn't match up with the electric bill I'm paying.
Here is some info on how much electricty computers and monitors use in various states

By turning off your monitor instead of just letting it sleep with the light blinking you will save anywhere from 5-15 watts. Not a whole lot but if everyone did it, it would start to add up. You might as well do your part.
