i don't know why you're getting that message, but a work-around would be to e-mail the files from one machine to another...

Windows gets confused sometimes. I've had to reboot machines on both ends of a VPN to get filesharing working again.

cheers for the quick reply guys.

I never normally have problems like this between all my vpn end points, I use the file copy to automatically copy files in the early hours for automatic import into my system but it won't work so emailing won't quite cut it but thanks for the suggestion.

any other remote idea would be great !

Cheers

This may be lame, but you say you can see the files on the remote network. Can you open them and "save as" a local file?

Are you using a mapped network drive?

What OS?

Members of a domain, different domains, workgroups?

Have you checked the credentials?

Have you checked that the accounts are not disabled or locked out?

Have you checked the permisions on the files?

Hi ,

I have found out that i can connect to the remote machine via VPN through the directory structure, i.e in a run line \\192.168.1.200\c$ and find a file and copy it to my local machine but I cannot copy a file the same way from my machineonto the remote machine this is when i get the original message.

We are not on the same domain but I connect with administrator credentials which has always worked

You may need to connect by machine name rather than IP address.

If you know the name of the remote machine, you can get your local machine to resolve it by using an lmhosts file.

Can you successfully connect to the ipc$ resource?

"net use \\remotemachine\ipc$"

Re-reading, it sounds like the problem is related to offline files. If you've enabled offline files, and the file share becomes unavailable even temporarily, you have to either synchronize the offline files again or select "go online without synchronizing files".

Alternately, you can connect with a different share name.
