I friend of mine is an ex convict served his sentence over 38 years ago. Drug Trafficking. Cuban native. Resides in Florida. Has been working full time legally using his s/s number and paying his taxes. He is now 70 years old and would like to retire and get his retirement benefits.
He was recently told by someone" that he is not eligible for retirement benefits because of his prior federal offense. Can anyone in the legal community tell me if this is true.
No benefits are paid while the prisoner is incarcerated, but once the
released and paying ss into the system again, he'll be eligible for
retirement benefits.
