I'm researching laws particularly in the United States regulating ownership of virtual items sold for real money on websites. That is, what does the law say about it? Is there specific law requiring websites that sell virtual items to make said items expire after a certain length of time because problems arise otherwise when those items last forever? I have no idea what I'm searching for, and all my basic searches turn up questionable sources [I prefer an actual SuchandSuch.gov reference where possible].
i think its not considered property, well I will tell you what i know from selling gold and characters and from levelling people in MMO's for cash.
If you sell you "time-spent" instead of the items you get around any of their stupid EULA's and laws etc..
But i havent done this for about 6 months and they might have alot more laws out or something. btw im not a legal expert i was just into selling virtual items, so i thought id tell you what i know about it.
I heard about this on NPR. This has to do with the MMORPGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) correct? Honestly, my opinion is that this is a serious con. I think NPR said this is like a multi million dollar industry, and there is not receipt, no overhead.
Honestly, MMOs are big addictions for many people. I think they are listed as one of the highest reasons for college dropout right now. I fear the day that it also becomes the top reason fro bankrupcy.
