When I turn on my computer I get repeated error messages (WMI had encountered a problem and needs to close. Send error message, don't send error message.) By not sending it I can continue to use but this problem occurs every 5 seconds for an hour and stops. When I turn the computer on in the morning, problem repeats. I use a Dell, XP home edition, Version 2002. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

In Windows XP - Go to "Start" -> "Accessories" -> "Command Prompt".

In the text box type in winmgmt /kill and hit enter.

When you get the DOS prompt back again type in winmgmt /clearadap and hit enter.

When you get the DOS prompt back again type in winmgmt /unregserver and hit enter.

You should be able to close the text box as soon as you get the DOS prompt back.

These 3 steps will
- stop any currently running WMI services
- clear the WMI libraries from your system and
- unregister the WMI utility so that it won't try to run again in the future.
