TRIMMER

Full, check.
On, check,
Choke, check
I pull the rope umbilical,
Grrump, grrump, grrump
Two more presses of the bulb,
Grrump
Graaaaaa
It screams to life
Gra da da
Gra da da
Gra da da
It's hot to chew!
Gra da daa
I hook her to the harness, she seems to like the new spool!
The trigger makes her sing
Gra da daa
Gra da daa
I look ahead to the two acres of electric tape fence
The task looks daunting
Waaah the engine cries and the plastic cord replies Brrrrrrrrrrrr
as it laps at the short grass beneath the fence.
She seems hungry and eager
At a modest pace we move forweard
Brrrrrrrrrr
Then
Clack, clack, Clack. as the cord laps its tongue around fiberglass pole
Back off,
Brrrrrr, again we tear through the roughage
Up the hill through portions too long unattended
Grawwwww, she sinks in to the job
Lowering her tone as the resistance grows stronger
Waa eeeee she shrieks as the cord is snapped by an unnoticed rock
Waa eeeee, tap, waaaa, tap brrrrrrr and we're back at it.
Now, more behind than before but,
No rush
Brrrrr
Steady, let her sing
And then the turn for home.
A down hill pace and lighter vegetation
Waa, waa, waa eeeeee she sings as turf cascades to the left and right
Ba bra, ba bra, ba braaa oop.
She stops, she needs a drink.
We're but fifty yards from the last point
And, yet she balks and demands fluid.
I fill her tankard with petroale and pause.
Unnoticed before, it is in the stopping that the heat has its way with you.

In the house, a brief respite. Cherry coke!
Not the recommended brew but, my tongue rejects the thought of any drink lacking in full-flavor.
I note Babe talking to Australian sheep on the unattended TV.
Smiles
Ah, smack, smack, a tasty pause indeed.
Back to the lady.
My companions follow.

I've not been long away,
On, pull, gra da daa, gra da daa, brrrrrrr
Singin momma!
She quickly dissolves the remaining length of unmanicured turf.
Switch off, the noise recedes and the cord whisps to a quiet stop.
Done.

Now, my companion dogs, having escorted me around the estate,
Chirp in anticipation of their evening meal.
Delayed by my toil, their anticipation has grown.
All four dancing in circles,
Mock fights and feints at the heels of one another,
Yips and yaps. Now, now, now they cry.
It's our reward.

Servings made, I sit in repose.
It's then I notice the twitch of my hands.
Tingly pulsations as a result of my afternoon affair with the2-cycle maiden.
I would think this not a task for a surgeon.
I laugh and pause.
Laid back!
The dogs, being of a similar humor,
Lie spread-eagle on the cool tiles.
Satisfaction!!!
