How much fuel do these guys burn? Per hr. Gal/per mile? 1 mile train, flat land? 6K HP?? CID?? Sometimes 6 power units! Just courious.

Typical specific fuel consumption for an Alco 16 cylinder 3600 hp diesel locomotive engine would be around 166 grams of fuel per bhp per hour

Do the math...

@jclbiz,
A Diesel engine of this class would be around round 10,000 to 12,000 cubic inches, although the convention for locomotives is to quote the displacement for 1 cylinder.
