You're gonna love Madison, pdog. It is my favorite place in the Midwest. Course it useta be better back in the hayday of the Vietnam War, but then didn't we all.

Not having been born yet, I think that I for one, was -- much better then, too. But from the signs hanging from the houses when I was out there in March, I think shrub is doing his best to revive the towns lackluster spirit (or something like that).

I was born directly as a RESULT of what was happening in Madison in the 60's. (Mom was one of the upstairs hippie girls on Bassett, dad was one of the downstairs hippie boys on Bassett. Lots of jazz and hashish drifting between upstairs and downstairs. Mom was very fetching in her thai silk floral maternity wedding dress. [4 months preggo with me.])

I was born the year the U.S. removed its last advisors from Vietnam (at least, I think so; my U.S. History course in high school got right up to the cusp of the Civil War in the course of a year, and didn't cover much before that, either -- and I spent much of the time in that course arguing with the spurious and totally unsupportable claims our teacher liked to make about the U.S. media, which I didn't particularly like but which he attacked on absurd grounds -- plus, as it was an early morning class I was high a lot, having come direct from the parking lot -- where was I) -- oh, yeah, born in '75, which is starting to feel not-all-that-young, especially when radio deejays play stuff from JA's Ritual de lo Habitual and talk about how old it is, how it came out, like, 12 years ago... er, yeah, last day of work and all, and my ability to focus is not what it usually -- well, occasionally, anyway -- is. May I digress on this thread?



Thankee much. Turns out my replacement is about as interested in learning from me as I am in teaching, so today should be pretty mellow, except for the task of hunting down all my personal effects and emailing random computer files to myself, and getting my in-box cleaned out...
