On 26 July 1953 Cuban revolutionaries, led by Fidel Castro, launched an armed attack on the Moncada barracks in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba's second city in Eastern Cuba.

The mission failed but launched the revolution that brought Castro to power.

In 1959, Fidel Castro and the revolution succeeded in toppling Batista.

He has remained in power ever since, earning him the title of the world's longest serving political leader.

How much longer will he remain in power, and what may happen when he dies?

And besides questions on Cuba's political future, how could this country handle it's actual economic problems? [An interesting aside: Cuba's strongest ally and financial aid dissapeared from the maps 13 years ago.]

Cuba's Ally . . .
One person in six is Chinese - 1.3 BILLION of them! China IS a Communist nation - and a supplier of Cuba. At least the Cuban buses are Chinese-made. I've not looked into anything else. Why many folks say Cuba is the ONLY Communist nation left in the world is puzzling. There are also the nations of Vietnam and North Korea still in the Communist corner.

Before Fidel, Cuba was a tourists' playground. It continues to be one - just not for tourists from the U.S. There is much investment in Cuban hotels, etc., from European nations. No doubt plenty of info online about this.
