[answered]Why are pages sometimes wide?

I'm sure there's a simple answer for this... Sometimes as I read the pages of a post, one page will be wider than my computer screen, so I have to scroll sideways in order to read it. The rest of the pages in the same post fit my screen, and sometimes that page will fit on another viewing...

Today the grid on the Home page is wide, so frinstance, all I can see of the topic name is Pets and Gar... the rest of gardening is off the screen to the right.

Howcome? Thanks!

Moved to "Forum Help".

This happens when long links or wide images are posted. Osso posted a huge link that is streching the home page.

It's better if people post a text link in those circumstances.

A future version of this site will automatically truncate those links.

Marking answered.

Thank you, Craven (I knew you'd know the answer!)... So when it's just Page 4 of a 6-page topic, there's something on that one page (like a long link that won't break at the end of a line) that's stretching whatever shows on that page.... I get it!

By the way, when I called this page back up to edit it, it was wide -- half of the edit button is off the right side. I'll look again when this is posted.

Yup. This is being addressed in several ways. The next version of a2k will allow for wider threads (though with the ads on the side the difference is moot).

In the future the links will truncate (though wide images will still be bothersome) etc etc

Craven, that was the photo link? Can I do the photo by clicking the offsite url into URL instead of IMG ???

No no, it was a long URL that was stretching, it wasn't a photo.

If you have a long url to use as a link use a link text like this:

short text for a long link

If it's an image you can use the IMG tags but if it's a huge image then ot's better to link (you can use an image URL as a link).

If it's a huge image with a huge URL it's best to use a text link to the image.

I like that kind of link better than a URL anyhow. It's cleaner-looking.

I wonder where my Lady wanders... all up and down the stair.

song by Tim Buckley. Wish I still had the album; I loved his voice.
