It's another psychopathic murder mystery, but with two twists (not a spoiler):

1) The main story is from the perspective of the psychopath(Kevin Costner), with the detective chasing him taking second. This is atypical...they always show the psycopath's side, but usually you are meant to identify more with the detective. Not so in this movie.

2) One of the main character's is the psychopath's second personality (William Hurt). His bad side. Much like Gollum's bad half in the Lord of the Rings movie.

The acting is great; Costner and Hurt combined make a very rich character in my opinion, and the dialog between them is good...better than that between Gollum and Smeagol, for example. You can really feel Hurt as being like a voice in your head.

Dane Cook plays his part well, too...and offers some good "natural" comic relief.

All in all, this movie is far more bloody than you will expect. If that doesn't phase you, then its great.
