Hallo everybody,
I am new around so I don't know yet how everything works here. To get started, however, I want to ask you, do you know some movies with "fake cities". Not futuristic cities like in Brazil and Delicatessen for example, but like the ones in "Truman Show", "Dead city" and "Matrix".
It would really help me if you can give some suggestions...
Hope to get to know more of you soon!
Thanks!
How 'bout Metropolis? Oh, and welcome to able2know!
Hmmm, interesting question, bruja. How about The Thirteenth Floor?
You listed Dead City - did you mean Dark City?
I'll keep thinking about it and see if I come up with any more.
Must be "Dark City," mac.
"Metropolis" is a future city -- bruja's giving us a tough one for a new member! And welcome also -- you wouldn't give us a real cinematic brain buster, would you?
"Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" takes place in an imagined city in India with an imagined religious cult.
"Allan Quartermain and the Lost City of Gold"
The 3 examples given are cities/worlds where the residents are deceived and don't know that they're not in control. Sort of like the holodeck characters in Star Trek.
MAYBE?
Gotham City
Camelot
Brigadoon
Charli's are excellent. Especially "Brigadoon" which I had just happened to buy on DVD -- Van Johnson's cynical alcoholic is a great performance in that film.
Peyton Place
Depends on what you mean by "fake cities".
Fantasy cities?
Alphaville
Lord of the Rings
The Neverending Story
Logan's Run
Cities that are not real, but are in the mind?
Une Soir, un train - a strange oniric Belgian film by famous surrealist artist André Delvaux: a fake city with a fake language.
El Dorado
Although not in the title Batma's Gotham city
HARRY POTTER . . .
COKEWORTH - in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."
There must be many other named-places in that series of books (as well as more in the one mentioned above).
Also, welcome to A2K, bruja! :-)
