On another forum, a birding forum, they've been discussing a new film from France called Winged Migration. The "twitches" are a little upset because there were several incorrect bird identifications. I haven't seen the film, hope to later this summer, but I thought any of you who had seen it might enjoy this poem, penned by a birder, Howie Wilson.

Although the movie might be good
the promo done by Sony
prepares a lot of food for thought,
but much of it........Baloney !

The picture of the "ibis"
the authors should regret.
In thumbing through the field guides, it
would make a great Egret.

The underwing will give a clue
if this ID you're pondering.
With so much black on leading edge......can
this albatross be Wandering??

In naming swans they miss again
and commit another blooper.
In pictures and migration routes
this "trumpet" is a Whooper.

I was glad to see the Arctic gull....and
about its flight to learn.
In such a long migration
you dare not miss a TERN.

Check out Winged Migration.

Glad you were amused!

There was more they didn't like. Americans were portrayed as hunters, all. Germany was something awful, I forget what, but Paris was lovingly shown as The City of Light. That didn't go over well, either.

The cinematography is supposed to be fabulous. I do want to see it. I love nature films.
