There is a member who has threatened to disclose the true names of members. I for one want to maintain my anonimity. Is my personal information available to be shared amonst members? If so I will be immediately discontinuing my input here.

Not to worry. Craven is smarter than to let that happen.

I think probably anyone with computer savvy could find out weho a person actually was if they had the inclination. I'm also sure that the mods here would deal with anyone they thought was seriously trying to be malicious in that way.

Personally everyone knows who I am and where I am and I have several websites where anyone can see where I'm performing on a given night, so obviously my anonymity is not important to me. I'm happy to welcome anyone from here who shows up friendly like. I'm equally happy to make anyone who shows up to do mischief sorry they did.

No.

That member (TTH) is bluffing, and bluffing badly. She's been doing it (or variations of it) for a long time. She seems to want people to chase after her and beg for information... or something.

Here's the A2K privacy policy:

http://www.able2know.com/privacy.php

I'm sure someone official will be along to answer this more definitively, or if not you can contact the Help Desk. But you mentioned on the other thread that you hadn't had much contact with TTH, so I thought I'd just stop by to mention that it's not the first time she's done something like that, and she's never ever been able to substantiate it.

The last big brouhaha she started was when she claimed to be making money by spying on us, or something. That fell apart pretty quickly.

Did you see the exchange on the other thread about me asking her about how many books she had? That tells you pretty much all you need to know.

Starts here:

http://www.able2know.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=2665112#2665112

Then TTH averred that I had actually asked her:

I went and found the post she referred to (note that she didn't QUOTE it, just gave links.)

This was it:

tryingtohelp, you have quite a talent for waiting until someone else has answered and then making it your own answer... I've noticed that before. Laughing Have you EVER answered one of these completely on your own, without co-opting someone else's answer or finding it through Google? Anyway.

Stuh, I got "eye" because I see one (can try to crop from the image to show you) and because the only letter I can really see is an "E" (with some stuff after it), thought it might be the word "eye."

No question about books.

My advice -- pay absolutely no attention to anything she claims.

I have been on this site since the beginning. Unless you have given out your identity to another member who has a big mouth, I don't believe that there is any way that your identity can be discovered.

Over the years, you will find that from time to time members drift in and out who get their jollies by trying to upset other members. Personally, I would let it go in one ear, and out the other!

Have you disclosed your true name here? If not then there is nothing
to worry about, marty.

I guess I'm just worried about how I registered with my email address. It was so long ago and I was in a very difficult place in my life then. What I originally posted about could cost me my job and a lot of friends.

Don't worry, Marty. I doubt many of your friends will admit to knowing you while you are wearing that red and white striped outfit. For your own safety, never take it off!

For additional security, you might consider this black and white striped number and eat a lot of mom's leftover beans:

Marty--

Did the Nasty Little Girls play "I've Got A Secret" in your elementary school?

If a Nasty Little Girl announced she Had A Secret, she was also announcing that she was a Very Important Person. Depending on how much charisma she had, NLG would either be fawned on and begged to disclose her secrets or she'd be ignored.

I'm reminded of the Washington legend of an embittered lobbyist who had to flee the country because of a threatened congressional investigation. Before he boarded his plane he sent a telegram to every member of the House of Representatives and every Senator, "Fly at once. All is discovered."

Supposedly it was weeks and weeks before congress could come up with a quorum and conduct any business.

In the post-elementary school world we call NLG's "trolls". Sometimes they are ignored. Sometimes they become Figures of Fun and Targets of Abuse. Either way, they have no secrets, no power and little common sense.

Hold your dominion.

Marty,
Thank you for asking this.

I vaguely understand the psycho-ness behind NLG's playing at secrets.

But, it's still a threat, isn't it? It's still intended as a threat? Even if the poster denies it's a threat?

When does the terms of service line get crossed?

I understand your concern, Marty and I feel more assured by the responses here. But I also think that it's odd that the behavior is allowed to continue.

I am a little concerned about this identity disclosure business. If my real name is disclosed the fact that I have been banging Hagatha Pancakebottom on a fairly consistent basis will probably be revealed and the relationship will have to be terminated.

Then, a change of identity, a clandestine move in the dead of night, and a search for a replacement Hagatha Pancakebottom will begin.

I just don't feel like going through that hassle right now. I'm comfortable. I'm happy.

Let's nip this thing in the bud.

Marty and Caribou, I had to leave (to go see a movie) just after I had posted on the other thread when I finally decided to assist the poster by finding the statement that some of us perceive as a clumsy implied threat.

I have not one smidgeon of concern. The poster is figuratively waving her hands in the air. I'm sorry I didn't say some reassurance after I posted that.
