I like this very much, except for the fact there is no where to keep my riding kangaroo.

Is this a luxury prison cell?

I don't know. Seems weird to me.

I dunno, Caribou.

The article described it as being designed for short stay living.

I've posted a bunch of articles over the years on manufactured housing - and there were a lot I didn't post, that field is burgeoning. Then there's another burst of energy going into design of tiny places, however they're built. Some of the effort is about efficiency, some about living lightly on the land, some for replacement housing in disasters...
There was one article where a guy designs small wooden houses that can be carried on a truck.

Not sure what my own primary interest is in these small places, though I've been interested since an architect friend worked up a series of 400 sq. ft. houses back in the early eighties. I think it's because when I was a child I liked getting to stay in a compartment, uh, roomette, on a train. So cool, I loved every second of that.

oh, I understand it's temporary living.
I get the as a small child/small place thing.
And Yes, I can appreciate the efficiency of having no clutter and everything close to hand.

Just, one first impression, looks like a very expensive cell sized room. And that just seemed a little twisted logic to me.

Typing without thinking, probably should go to bed...

okay, edited twice for spelling and grammar. I am off to bed!

Riffing off of this to a link to a recent favorite architect - not that I love everything, what are those pods, but - Shigeru Ban.

Click on the slide show by Michael Kimmelmann, a writer I like as well.

The riff relates to the housing in Africa..

While not as architectural as the ones in your link, the Mobile Hermitage is an affordable alternative in small living.

Nothing wrong that I know of.
Conceivably they fit different functions/clients.

@ossobuco,
This tiny house is a wonder of modern architecture.

It'd be neat if one could install this little house on top of a 5 story walk up building roof. A very inexpensive penthouse!!

@deepat,
Well, here's a new one - in the Berkeleyside news today:

Dumpster living..

potentially a very useful idea for small shelters..

@ossobuco,
Well, I'd seen dumpsters used as swimming pools, never thought about it for living; but, I guess it would be a workable idea.

Probably fit a family of 10 in there.
