I wandered around A2K last night and ended up looking at the first posts that a relatively random group of folks made. Many of us were refugees from Abuzz. The quotes are heavily abridged and bear no connection to each other.
Letty (joined 9/23/02-now at 31,500 posts/19 per day): ""Well, I made it here."
Sozobe (10/16/02-37,000/22): "Nice to see you."
Mysteryman (11/27/02-3,800/2): "Am I welcome here?"
Gus (5/27/03-16,200/11): "A tentative hello from a simple capybara farmer."
Cicerone (10/22/02-42,000/25): It seems I got my wish to be Moderator/Editor of the Travel Forum."
Occum Bill (12/4/03-9,300/7): "Wake up pal."
Dyslexia (11/30/02-22,100/14): "Yesterday was the anniversary of the sand creed massacre."
I'm such a suck-up. Or honest.

I don't reread many books, as I always have books on hand that I haven't yet read. But one I would like to reread is Burr. I could probably reread a number of Vidal's books. I had quite a little collection of them, but gave them away when I moved.

Age: Old enough to know
better, but too young to resist.
Sex: Again??? Jeesh!
Location: (hint) The sky is Carolina blue.
On Age / Sex / Location thread.
It was immediately followed by a little Rat telling me it was about time I showed up.
That's a bit spooky, RJB. I'd just looked that up earlier today -- the kid asked to see my first post here. I remember there was some early testing and futzing and some things were moved around and rearranged -- the spacing on those old posts are weird, for example. I really don't think that was my actual first post, but it's the first one I could find!
Nothing memorable that I recall from the first several, at least, of my posts.
Paraphrasing edgar: I love Harry Bellefonte's music, but his politics...
I love Belafonte's politics as much as his music.
Surprisingly, my first post was in the philosophy forum.
"Is there such a thing as a universal truth?"
My next post was more what you might expect.
"What is the average time that it takes for a man to go from penetration to orgasm?"
Soon after that I got into a fight with OCCOM BILL, and that was it. I was hooked.
Perhaps I misread it, Edgar. Sorry.

I may be mistaken, but, I believe my first words on a2k were, I wonder where are all the poopity heads?
as near as i can see, this was my first post
"i've always been fond of hunters and collectors and weddings, parties, anything"
one day after i joined
the topic was about australian music
i should have just let everyone guess what i was talking about
Timberlanko (joined 11/11/02) "Howdy, all."
As best I can tell, my first post was a thread I started. It's the earliest date on my Your Posts list.
Worrying Up a Silver Streak
It was bound to happen. My very dark hair is becoming sprinkled with silver strands. I like them, but I would really love a streak of silver at the top, front. right.
Worry is said to cause graying. If I worry in a very focused way, will I be able to create a streak? Will it be in the right place? Does worry about different things affect graying in different places? For example, if I focus all my worrying on money, I might end up with a streak in the back of my head. If I worry exclusively about overpopulation, I could end up with a silver streak over my left ear. What should I worry about that will get that streak in exactly the right spot?
Suggestions?

Craven replied, and then EhBeth!
Hard to believe it's almost 5 years!
Heh, the first one of mine that survives (there were older ones that were deleted, plus Craven and I were emailing furiously back and forth and I have no idea what happened to that stuff) is about Singin' in the Rain.

Oh, I'm famous, my first post is being quoted! :-)
Hey, I remember Hunters and Collectors.. vaguely.. and was the other reference (partly) to The Birthday Party?
My first post was an esoteric comment about twentieth century Italian cinema. Ossobuco and fbaezer were the only people who knew what I was talking about.
(since then I have strived to become more popular by emulating gustavratzenhofer)
Hey, your first post got the attention of Osso and fbaezer. What more do you need?
sozobe wrote:Hey, your first post got the attention of Osso and fbaezer. What more do you need?
You are correct, sozobe. I should have emulated Osso and fbaezer instead of gus.
