I read an article about it in an old science magazine I found in some waitingroom.

A man whos name I don't recall, had plotted the movement of the planets for a period of ten thousand years into a computer, and when seen as two dimensional images, lines could be drawn between the points, forming some complex symmetrical figures. I twelve pointed star was one.

Has anyone heard about this? I haven't found anything on the web. I probably have the wrong keywords...

Epicycles have been known about since Ptolemy (150 AD).

Is this the sort of thing you were looking for?
