Regardless of how much fun it seems to be, please do not poke at the spammers. Frankly, it can shade over into TOS violations. I am not posting on this topic to call anyone out but really, it's got to stop. I cannot make this any clearer. Thank you.

i'll stop

Hi Jes, What does this mean? And I hope I haven't done it. If I have, I'll stop.

This means that the responses are being tagged as spam by your email provider. I know that that can happen automatically; I'm just asking for it not to be done deliberately, or else how are we going to reach people?

Oh -- the chicken scratch -- it's Russian, Belarussian or Ukrainian spam from spambots.

I'm not sure. This is a thing with your email provider. What you probably need to do is add *@able2know.com to your safe sender list.

I have never reported this thing you call "SPAM".

The reason for this is that I would not be entirely sure what it is. Embarrassed

Is it just a new thread with a link that looks like an advertisement for something?

I would probably have left any reporting to other members for fear of being reprimanded myself for doing the wrong thing. Duurrr.

If anyone would care to educate me on what to look out for, I would be delighted.

D.P.

Dorothy Parker- The most obvious spam would be one where a brand new member waxes rhapsodic about something, and then provides a link to it.

There are some spammers who simply post lists of links.

BTW, never, never click on any of those links. You can never tell where they will take you.

Roberta I did not know what that meant either. I am glad you asked.

Phoenix32890 uh, I have been doing that and believe me you don't want to know where it takes you. Thank You for posting that. I really didn't want to click on them but, I took the chance anyway. I just figured it was better to take the chance rather than ignore it.

jespah I was clicking on the links to see if it was spam. If it was I reported it and sometimes it wasn't even though it appeared to be. I don't want to ignore it if I think it is. So, if I don't click on the link to find out if it is or not how do I know whether to report it or not. I don't want to create more work for someone. How would you like that handled?

Otherwise, if I am unsure do I report it or ignore it?

That's a nice question, trying to help. Still. . . . Every once in a while, there will be an offer of a free spam <oh> posted in forum help, that just could be well intended. I'm just not willing to open my computer to the problems that could be caused by accepting the link.

I will, however, refrain from commenting. Still, I recall one poor feller soliciting help in getting together with his boy friend in Canada. Probably against tos, but he didn't post a link, and I kind of felt sorry for him.

spam is unsolicited advertisement

A2k does not allow advertisements. Period. I dont care if it is for viagra, or a cheap plane ticket.

If the thread starts out in ANY form of a sale " Buy viagra"- " Looking for a good download?" etc......etc.

it is spam

Report it.

simple.

Some are obvious and some aren't (to me).

Someone might ask a question on a subject matter that seems legit. Then provide the link and ask for any comments on the subject matter.

Some of those are legit. Some of them are spam ??????

Those are the ones I don't know what to do?

I realize I have been risking my computer Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad That has been a risk I have been willing to take.

I just feel quilty if I think it is spam and don't click on it to make sure it is before I report it. Almost like walking away and not getting involved. I also don't want to clutter the hamsters with reports that I am not sure if they are
spam but I suspect they are.

There was one in the test or help section just a few minutes ago with a link.
I clicked on it. I reported it and asked if it violated the TOS.

I will risk my computer only because I rather see the TOS followed then not report the spam. That is the risk I choose to take. I realize that. Unless I hear a better way I will still do it because I feel it is the right thing to do.
IMO only.

Edit: I have to go but, I did want to wish everyone a Happy Easter.

DON'T click on the link. Just report it. The moderators will figure out if it is spam for sure.

If you click on the link, tth, it encourages them to put more SPAM on
this site.

I report it, mostly without any response on the thread, but I did start
writing "reported" underneath to avoid double reporting.
I won't do that now. Embarrassed

If I'm unsure whether or not it's spam I just stick a question mark in the report. Spam?

I am not concerned if a link is spam, once I report it. My concern is that the link may take me to either something that I do not want to see (like explicit porn), or to a malicious site that could cause mischief with my computer.

A little paranoia is a beautiful thing!

I figure if the whole point of the post--particularly from a brand new member--is to push another website of any kind that this is Spam.

Porn...Viagra...dying children....enviromental action...selling legal services...looking for customers....editing manuscripts....

If they are using A2K for advertising it is Spam.
