At some point during my browsing A2K every day I click on the "unanswered" link at the top right of the page. This morning it suddenly occurred to me, "What the heck does 'unanswered' mean? Does it mean the query was answered and then the answers removed? Or waht?" It's a conundrum. But, more than that, it's a question of semantic meaning. If no answers to the post have been submitted, then shouldn't the expression be "not answered" rather than "unanswered"?
I bet this post never becomes a thread but will go unanswered.
Answering to get it off the "unanswered" list
Its a popularity thing..
just like high school.
You have the kids who everyone talks to, then you have the kids everyone ignores.
shewolfnm- That may be true, to some extent. I think though, that there are some threads that are so arcane, that no one is really interested in answering them.
Sometimes, when I write a thread, I just KNOW that it is going to be popular. Other times, I am aware that I have laid an egg, possibly even before I get little response!

If an inquiry was answered by someone spamming, then we remove the spam and the topic goes back into the unanswered pile. So, yes, sometimes there really may have been an "answer", but it was someone selling soap or whatever. Usually, it's just that there have not yet been any responsive postings made.
Damn! Now you people have made mo lose my bet.
Jes, do you mean to say that there are actually spammers sometimes on this site??? I'm shocked; shocked, I tell you.
I have made my share of unanswered posts. I just let it roll off my back and go on with the next thing.

Go round up the usual suspects.
