sawx advance to the ALCS!

schilling did his playoff thing (7 innings, 6 hits, no runs, 1 walk, 4 K's).
papi & manny went back-to-back for the first time all year, providing all the runs they would need in a 9-1 romp.
they outscored LAA 19-4 in the series.

this was a dominant performance today -- angels never looked like they had a chance...

Then the Sox do have a chance.

The line-ups are arguably equivalent; both teams have 2 reliable starters... moving a reliable to spot number 2 could be the key... I had already discounted a Carmona victory, not anymore.

last night's 10-3 thumping of sabbathia + co was so decisive that it put your's truly to sleep in the 5th inning!

Cy Beckett gave up a dinger early, but still pitched great (6 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, no walks, 7 K's).
he only threw 80 pitches, so they could bring him back for game 4, and he would still be available for a potential game 7.

gagne struggled once again, but managed to complete an inning without giving up any runs.

ortiz + big papi were a combined 10 for 10 in getting on base (4 for 4, 4 runs, r rbi, 5 walks, 1 hbp).

expect carmona to pitch better than sabbathia.
schilling will have to bring his A-game...

Unfortunately, Schill brought his Q game, as in, I have questions about this guy. Oof.

Schilling sucked. At the bar last night, some douchebags kept yelling "Gagne sucks." Ok, but what about Schilling? Game would have been wrapped up if he didn't give up that 3-run bomb.

Apparently that was the planned pitch vs. Peralta. So essentially they need a new game plan with Peralta. Oy, it was not fun to watch, I ended up retreating before midnight, I was tired of watching it not getting wrapped up. I was not thrilled when Varitek didn't seem to hustle to first and thereby gave up a double play, just after Ortiz had hustled.

dice-K has to step up tomorrow night and earn his $$.
i like his chances against westbrook...

damn good thing the pates stomped dallas -- otherwise there'd be a ton of depressed Bahstiners moping around tomorrow...

Cy Beckett, Big Game Pitcher

with their backs against the wall, he cranked out another playoff gem (8 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 11 K's).

he was ornery all game -- almost getting into a fight with old nemesis kenny lofton -- and he dropped an F-Bomb during his live postgame interview Laughing

great game all around.
the offense came to life late, turning a 2-1 nail-biter into a convincing 7-1 romp.

back to Bahstin.
is there any playoff magic left in the 40 year old right arm of curt schill?

Curt's still got it!
7 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, no walks, 5 K's in a 12-2 laugher.
like beckett the other night, schill also cursed during his postgame interview, dropping an S-Bomb on live TV Laughing

on a night where ortiz + manny went a combined 1-for-6 with 1 ribbie, the rest of the team banged out 12 hits.

jd drew won't be hearing those fenway boos anytime time soon, not after hitting a 1st inning grand salami with 2 outs.

gagne is yemporarily back in the good graces after pitching a clean mop-up 9th...

Diceman has a chance to win back some fans with a strong outing sunday.
he doesn't have to go very deep, because the entire bullpen -- except schill -- will be available to lend a hand.

momentum is back on the http://imgsrv.wbz.com/image/DbLiteGraphic/200604/24119.gifahstin side in a big way.

clevelend looked awful -- lousy pitching, sloppy fielding.
their Big Two, sabbathia + carmona, have not done their jobs in this series.

game 7 @ fenway park... can't wait!
