Video card problem?

Hello,

I was using the computer, and all of the sudden the monitor had lines throught the screen. They kept getting bigger and bigger, and there were boxes, and mouse trails, etc. I didn't know what to do, so I restarted the comp, but now there's no picture at all. The monitor turns on (and i know it works - i tested it on another comp) and displays a blank bluish/grey screen with nothing on it.

I don't know much about computers at all, but this same comp had a similar problem before, and when i took to to the shop they said the fan was dirty, and cleaned or replaced it. So I took out the video card, but the fan wasn't really dirty at all. Do I need to get a whole new card?

PLEASE help me. I am at my wits END. Having to deal with piece of crap computers (i'm living abroad right now, and these locally assembled computers are causing me so much grief) Crying or Very sad

p.s. I can't take it to the shop until monday, because it is holy week and they're all closed. But I really need this comp up and running ASAP.

*cries* Crying or Very sad

You got a picture on the monitor when you used it on the other computer?
If you did then it points to your video card as being bad.

You say you took it out. Blow it off and reseat it in the computer to see if it starts working again. It could be a bad connection so taking it out and putting it back in could make it work. More likely it is a bad card and will need to be replaced.

Yeah, thanks. I tried it, but it's still not working. Do you think it would be ok for me to take a video card from a differnet computer and put it in that one? They're botht he same kind.

If they are the same kind then you don't have to worry about drivers. Just swap out the cards and see if the problem goes away.
