How can I disable the sleep and power buttons on my external keyboard? My cat keeps shutting down my computer when he walks across the keypad.

Thanks

screeeetch! bad boy...

i looked in control panel -- windows doesn't seem to have any sleep button settings.

can you cover the buttons with something small and sturdy, maybe tape it down?

that should do the trick...

I had this problem, and this is the only way I could cure it.

(Windows does have sleep button options.)

1. Click on the Start Button
2. Open the Control Panel
3. Click on Power Options.
4. Click the Advanced tab.
5. Locate the "When I press the power button on my computer" drop-down menu.
6. Select "Do Nothing"
7. Locate the "When I press the sleep button on my computer" drop-down menu.
8. Select "Do Nothing"
9. Click OK

Now the cat will have to select shutdown the normal way by clicking the start button and selecting "Turn Off Computer". (So will you)

Hey thanks, Contrex!

I was refering to my external keyboard. I get neck pain when I use my laptop as a laptop (from looking down). I have it up on a stand so the screen is at eye level and I have a keyboard attached via a USB cord. My laptop key pad is ok. I did apply a "do nothing" to the sleep button. I'll test it out later and let you know if it worked.
