Just got a great new DVD, "Talk to Her". It is about two women, both in a coma, and the men who care for them. One is a ballerina, the other a bull fighter (yes, that is NOT a typo).
It is a Spanish film, with subtitles. The movie goes along at a languid pace, that is mesmerizing. Geraldine Chaplin plays a small but pivotal part. There is a black and white dream sequence within the film that is awonderful!
Have any of you seen the film?
I wish I had, Phoenix. But I have heard great reports about it ...
Came & went too fast from my favourite movie theatre, dammit!
My favorite film, lately, but I've been an Almodovar fan from his earliest. The "Cucurucucu" sequence just about killed me (great old song, didn't know Veloso had done his version) -- so I splurged and bought both the DVD and the CD with the soundtrack.
Excellent movie, a "weeper" with male protagonists. I liked it very much.
Thoroughly engrossing film though I disagree with many critics who wrote that it was BETTER than "All About My Mother".It was great but not quite THAT great.
Tartarin, you opened my eyes.Didn´t realise that there were other people who knew Caetano Veloso (apart from our Brazilian folkses).
What I find so wonderful, at this stage of my life, is that I have just recently awakened to the lesser known foreign and indie films. Living where I do, there are only a couple of theatres in my area that play anything but the studio blockbusters, and they are quite a ride away.
As a result, I don't go to many movies. My son turned me on to the indies, and little by little, I am picking them up on DVD.
I'm with msOlga - wish I'd caught it when it came through town. Guess it's rental time now.
I'm a huge Almodovar fan, and this one had some decent reviews from reviewers I kinda trust.
hebba, i think you'll find more than a few who appreciate Veloso on these boards.
Cool..I´m glad about that.
Almodovars films are very popular here and always play to full houses.
Almodovar's films are so diverse and interesting (even the bad ones are at least interesting) that I doubt one would find agreement about "the best." I think Law of Desire, an oldie, is right up there, along with Women On The Verge, and do in fact prefer Talk To Her to All About. But might change my mind tomorrow! And then there are scenes which are unforgettable, not least of which is Victoria Abril with her bathtub toy.
Made some yesterday. Thank god for ciabatta bread which almost duplicates the real stuff.
I forgot to mention What Have I Done To Deserve This -- a really funny, edgy film.
There's another, older, thread on this film on A2K:

I hate it when that happens.
Just like the "favourite smell" thread.I MUCH prefer the "favourite scent" thread. So much more refined.
Anyway,Almodovar:"Atamé",saw it in London when it came out and I´d forgotten that bath tub scene. Thanks for the reminder Tartarin.
