We all know what type of people chose to go to see, a euphemism for having your pocket picked,a Mr Danny Larue when on a visit to our Capital city in preference to visiting the Wigmore Hall to see a virtuoso lady cellist give an astonishing performance of Rostropovich's Cello concerto, a work which readily lends itself to astonishing performances by lady cellists. Or even been at the bar a lot earlier and thus not been inconvenienced, self inflicted, by having to rush one's beer. That is an activity much frowned on in certain circles.

In the good old days, to which you refer, the police had just a busy hour or two to contend with as best they could, which I have been reliably informed they quite enjoyed, and it was back to the cards in the canteen whilst the population slept sweetly in their beds. Now they are at it all night. Go home knackered. Six weeks of that overstrain sets in. Time off. More recruits needed. No let up for the taxpayer.

But I hoped you enjoyed your stay in London. I hated mine. It takes all sorts eh?

spendius :
we certainly enjoyed our visit in '79 (and our return visit some years later) .
just so you won't think that we only saw danny la rue Laughing ; we also enjoyed the london symphony at royal albert hall plus a shaw play ...
we were going from morning till evening .
seeing the vast collections at the postal museum was a highlight for me (being a stamp collector) .
another interesting visit i remember was to the guildhall of the silversmiths with a great collection of trinkets and treasures .
on our return visit - we only had two nights in london and - being slightly older , we had trouble NOT falling asleep during dinner , but still enjoyed our stay .

Well, yes, you can use water pistols even without the tap running in some regions of the UK.

Oh, I see, what you mean, dadpad.

Doctor Foster went to Gloster
In a shower of rain
He stepped in a puddle right up to his middle

and said "Ah well another normal day in jolly old England".

Recent reports show that women are still not receiving equal pay in U.K.

You do have to remember that stopping the country going into bankruptcy has higher priority. We all know that ladies can ask clients their name and address and write it down in a box as good as most men but when one sees film of people repairing powerlines during blizzards, or installing new sewers and utility supplies, or coming out of a mine shaft cage door or cutting down trees with chain saws or many a lot of other similarly challenging activities it is very noticeable that ladies are conspicuous by their absence. And rightly so. Broken fingernails, calloused hands and many more serious injuries should not be inflicted upon such delicate organisms as ladies are.

Why they wish to work at all passes my comprehension. After all, a goldmine is reputed to have the capacity to set one up for life and has indeed done on many occasions.

One assumes that were ladies ever to receive equal pay it would be the ultimate victory of the Paperwork Party and the economy would be solely concerned with everyone asking everyone else their name and address and writing it down in a box specifically marked for the purpose so it was more or less impossible to make a mistake.

One might rephrase your statement as-

Men are still not allowed equal access to soft jobs.

But beware investors. They are working on it and when men work on something they usually pull it off.

Recent remarks regarding banning smoking in pubs!

I'm not going to stand out here in winter, I'll drink at home.

It's not as much fun having a natter in the pub nowadays, everybody keeps walking out for a smoke.

There's not as many people going to the pubs, my business is suffering..Taxi driver.

He's drinking at home and shouting at me and the kids all night.

He's fetching his mates round with cans, all that smoke in the house is harming me and the kids.

I have to make them sandwiches up and the additional costs on the budget are going to give us problems,

They have been putting pornography on the video, it's not right.

I'm going to have to close this pub and get a job, it won't pay.

THE DECLINE AND FALL OF THE BRITISH WAY OF LIFE.

Reversing that smoking ban, could win an election Mr Conservative!

Not on its own.

I think he should campaign for the repeal of every bill passed by that load of spinning tops and nest feathering babes and make a fresh start. Even put the calendar back to 1997.

SPENDY, YOU LITTLE EFFER!!!

NOW POST THE WORDS AROUND THAT MESSAGE - THAT I DELETED!

YOU SNEAKY BUGGER, EDITING IT TO SUIT YOUR REPLY (USUAL BORING PRE-PREPARED CLAP TRAP ON FEMINISM).

I WAS QUITE HAPPY, SITTING HERE, GETTING PISSED, LISTENING TO THE GREAT ARTHUR LOVE...

NOW YOU'VE GONE AND SPOILT MY MOOD WITH YOUR NAUGHTY WAYS!

COME HERE RIGHT NOW AND APOLOGISE! OR I'LL SHALL HAVE TO TAKE YOU IN HAND - AND BEWARE, I'VE JUST BOUGHT A SEQUINNNED HANDLED RIDING CROP!

I'VE ALWAYS SAID (HAVN'T I?) THAT I WAS AWARE THAT EQUAL PAY WAS NOT ALWAYS AS STRAIGHTFORWARD AS CERTAIN INTERESTED PARTIES WOULD HAVE US THINK, I'M MORE THAN WILLING TO DEBATE THIS, BUT WHAT YOU DID WAS SNEAKY IN EXTREEMIS AND YOU SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND APOLOGISE.

NOW! <-- That's me shouting, rare, but shrill and very boomy.

Well a bit maybe in a few cases. What they will all be doing at home is watching TV. Bingo!

Bigger viewing figures bigger cash flow.

Media sold you the smoking ban. They could sell **** to the water companies. You saps.

And if ever a product sold on its merits it is tobacco. With no ads there was no hidden persuader. There was the opposite in the ridiculous price.
