@Walter Hinteler,

Ora pro nobis. We're just going out to try to buy an item of furniture for a smell space in a temporary bedroom, from a second-hand store. We tried all the other furniture shops yesterday.

@McTag,
Seriously try out the booties locally. That's where the real bargains are.

A piece of rock candy would do.

@izzythepush,

Well what an amusing mistake. You know what, I'm peering at the screen a lot at the moment and not seeing much due to cataract. Well it's not too dramatic yet, but it's definitely changed my prescription. So I'm seeing the man next week.
What are the booties? Car boot sales? For furniture?

@McTag,
Oh yes, people bring all sorts. Just as many vans as cars. A lot of house clearance lads go there to sell off stuff they've been paid to take away, so it's cheap.

I got a pine chest of drawers last week for £20. Really good nick and new, would cost at least £150 in the shops.

I was reading about how a group of neo-Nazis were shown up in their march in Liverpool by a much larger demonstration of anti-fascist "Scousers" there, "Scousers," I read elsewhere, referring to the distinctive accent in that area of England.

So, that would make the Beatles "Scousers" also, right?

@InfraBlue,
Yes, it's very specific to Liverpool, don't call a Manc a Scouser.

@izzythepush,

Liverpool only, of course. The name comes originally from "lobscaus" (spellings differ) a stew with meat and potatoes known also in Germany and the low countries. Probably the maritime trade was the link.

@McTag,
As a Kraut, I really like "Labskaus" ... though admittedly it looks a bit like puked out (espeically, when eaten at rough sea).

Labskaus was liked by everyone in the navy ages ago because it was accompanied by a bottle of beer - the only time, we were allowed to drink alcohol while on duty.

@Walter Hinteler,
Corn beef hash looks like that. A revolting looking dish that actually tastes very nice.

@Walter Hinteler,
That's a lovely story, on so many levels, human interest, science, history and inflation.
