I think of the USA revolt as just another revolution where the power mad led and the peasants followed, like the French and Russian Revolutions, it was a blood bath that wasnt necessary and created many more problems than it solved .

(dont bother yourself, OB1, I had to check the spelting ...I read too many of farmerman's psts te speelt correctness .)

Edward Heath.

Why has this taken so long to come out?

We heard about him in my hometown in Canada in the 1970's - somehow connected to the choirboy abuse scandal in some way. Will have to ask my dad what he remembers.

It emerged on Monday that officers from the Metropolitan police spoke to a man who came forward more than two years ago and claimed that as a teenager he was a victim of abuse by Heath.

The inquiries by the Met were not announced publicly, but Labour MP Tom Watson said: “I received information in 2012 concerning allegations of child abuse carried out by Edward Heath,” adding that the claims were passed to police and were being investigated and taken seriously.

It is understood the claims are being investigated under Operation Midland, which falls under a wider umbrella of investigations – known as Operation Fairbank – into allegations of abuse involving senior politicians and high-profile figures.

@ehBeth,
Why did Savile take so long to come out?

All of these revelations about the 'great and the good' have only come out post Savile.

It seems there was a concerted effort by the establishment to protect high profile abusers.

People have at best not been believed, at worst terrified into keeping quiet. They're only now getting the confidence to come forward.

We do not know what happened. Take Cyril Smith, according to some he was arrested for possession of child pornography and released without charge after making a phone call. Who did he call? How far does this go? How organised is it?

And more importantly is it still going on?

@ehBeth,
Your dad, I miss him! Has he geared up a/his new computer?
I've always listened to him. Maybe he doesn't want to participate as much, but we are still here to listen.

@McTag,
Good luck to him. Let me know how it goes. I really want as many of those sides to make it as far as possible.

@izzythepush,

WE saw on CeeFax last night, and I spoke to his father this morning, they lost 3-0. Fraser was only the sub, being younger than the first-choice players, and just back from holiday too.
They had good spells in the game, but two badly-defended corners, and a late penalty did for them.
Thank you for your interest.

@McTag,
It's still something. I've not even mown the lawn for a side that theoretically could win the FA Cup, let alone sit on the bench.

There's always next season.

@izzythepush,

My nephew was introduced as a sub last year, although he's young. He has talent, has been invited to train with a Championship side, but it was too far.
He'll be going to University in the autumn, so we'll see what develops for him. He'll probably still travel back at weekends to play football. His older brother did that for his rugby.

@McTag,
Good luck to him and I wish him success in both fields. We need a few more Albert Camus types on the pitch.

@izzythepush,

Thank you. The later-to-be Pope John-Paul apparently played football, as did Luciano Pavarotti.
