@Walter Hinteler,
But what will happen in three years, when the UK leaves the EU after the referendum? Scotland then will be still part of the United Kingdom but outside the EU ...

One thing I read last night during the coverage was that the group most likely to vote "no" was the pensioners (no surprise), but the second group in the "no" vote was the 16-17 year olds (big surprise). That was early on - I don't know that it held across Scotland - but the idea to pad the voter roles with young people may have backfired.

@JPB,
Unfortunately, there was no exit poll. So we really won't know it for sure.

16 year olds can vote in many Germany states from local to state level.
It didn't change the outcome of those elections, it is said, significantly.

A good outcome for all concerned in my view. Let's hope those involved are able to make the best of it.

Salmond was right about one thing though.

Scotland will keep the pound.

Since the Scots now will get full independence, because they voted against independence - shouldn't the English now get a referendum to split from England?

@Lordyaswas,
One of the things I will never do.

No, quite seriously: the West Lothian question will be a topic.
And if there would be an "English parliament" ... would it make decisions only for England? Or one UK parliament and three more regional with the same power as Holyrood will get? Or ...

But I suppose, after a week or so, all will be back to normality: discussing the next general elections and when the UK will leave the EU.

@timur,
The Daily Mail is a right wing rag that drums up the blue rinse brigade by dredging for stories like this. In the build up to WW2 it supported Hitler.

Having said that, there is an expectation, and legislation to make sure our public bodies are more representative of the communities they serve. Political parties have used women only shortlists for MP's seats.

I doubt very much the young lady in question will have problems finding a job, she'll probably get one with the Daily Mail. It's only one job out of many, I don't have a problem with it.

@timur,
As far as I could find out, under the 1976 Race Relations Act it was (is?) permissible to use racial considerations in recruitment to trainee positions such as the one to which Abigail applied.

I think the proposal is a combination of those two ideas, with one UK parliament, and four more regional with the same power as Holyrood will get.

Maybe another way to do it would be to have a single unified parliament, but the MPs would only vote as a single body for certain specific issues. Questions of local governance would be decided by four "subcommittees" that each dealt only with their own specific region.

Sorry, miscommunication. I'm counting Holyrood as one of the four.

If you meant Holyrood plus three others (for a total of four), then I'm trying to say the same thing.
