@Walter Hinteler,
Yes. Those have been going on for quite a while but I suppose they'll have more oomph in their steps now. I'm not so sure re the Tirol, but certainly quite a lot of people in northern Italy have wanted change for some years.
As a far outsider on this Scotland situation, I wasn't aware of all this until recently.

Well done Sweden.

Quote:
Scotland missed out on automatic qualification for the 2015 Women's World Cup after losing 2-0 to Sweden.

An early headed finish from Therese Sjogran gave Pia Sundhage's team the lead.

And, despite the Scots coming close through Kim Little and Jenny Beattie, a Lotta Schelin strike sealed top spot in Group Four for the hosts.

Scotland will now contest the play-offs with Italy, Ukraine and Netherlands, their possible opponents.

The sides went into this match with the Swedes three points clear at the top of the table, courtesy of their 3-1 triumph over the Scots at Fir Park in June.

Following a 9-0 thrashing of Faroe Islands, Anna Signeul's Scots made history by clinching a play-off place for the first time, but their hope of claiming the automatic qualifying spot was still alive.

A 3-1 win or better was required to secure automatic qualification for the finals in Canada and despite making early strides through the likes of Caroline Weir and Little, the Scots had the wind knocked out of their sails when slack defending cost them dearly.

@Lordyaswas,
Re English whisky, you can get plenty here. M&S are stocking it as well.

Making really great single malt whisky in England is paramount to what we stand for here at St. George’s.

Why England? Why not? We have fantastic water in the Breckland aquifer beneath our feet, we have the barley, the maltings, the yeast and now the distillery.

We don't add colour, we don't add flavour, we let the barrels do that for us. Our whisky is batch made by hand with no computers, matured in fine casks, bottled on site using our own water and is non chill-filtered. We are really proud of these things and believe you will taste the difference too.

@izzythepush,
Welsh whisky. I gave my dad a bottle of this one Christmas and he really liked it.

Quote:
This 12 year old Celtic malt whisky has a bright, full, amber colour, a touch of oak-aged palate and the peat which helps to give the malt a delicious heatheriness and a full, sweet, yet oddly understated smokiness. The ideal gift for any whisky connoisseur.

@izzythepush,
I've watched the scandal match in 1966 in England, with Scottish friends.
They changed sides in extra time, wee bastarts.

@Lordyaswas,
Lordy, I could see that Newspapers video, but between my hard of hearing ears and my routine failure to get a clue to English accents, I gave up on it. Sometime, maybe after your tree chopping and a nice beer, could you give me a quick rundown on how the main newspapers sit, politically, just as generalizations?

Signed,
Ms. Sandals of New Mexico

@ossobuco,
The (more) serious papers:

The Guardian - Centre Left

The Independent - Centre Left
The Times - Centre Rghtish

The Telegraph - Centre Right

The more sensational ones
The Mirror - Centre left

The Express - Centre Right

The Mail - Centre Right

Sun and Star are even more to the right.

What will happen with all those (could be nearly half of the Scottish population) who voted "yes", but got the "no" today/tomorrow morning?

@Walter Hinteler,
I'm just grateful that because the referendum is happening we've no more interviews with Brown, Salmond, Darling Sturgeon et al until the polls close.

The BBC has been anxious to show some unity underlying the debate, dismissing the threats as a tiny minority. Bloomberg on the other hand had an interview with Ultimo founder Michelle Mone, who says she will leave Scotland if there's a yes vote, after receiving threats to her life.

Plenty, pal.
No more Mr Nice Guy, eh Eck? Much more unpleasantness, and the idea will not go away.
I hate to mention/compare Ireland, Greece, Catalonia and Basque separatism campaigns, but there are a lot of nutters out there.

I think she said that before any threats, to be fair. It was a business decision. Don't let's over-dramatise things (ignoring my last post).
