@Walter Hinteler,

Uruguay seemed to want it more. They put in a real shift.

But one of them should have been sent off.

If he'd got yellow-red in the first half, the match would have ended differently.
But nevertheless, your boys played quite well, just two more goals were missing.

@Walter Hinteler,

I think they were out-Englished by the Uruguay team.

... if you get your passport, that is, and don't want to follow tourism minister Helen Grant's advice that the UK was a "wonderful place" to take a break and there is "a lot to be said for a staycation". Wink

I saw pictures of the ENGLAND team slinking off the plane in Manchester and Luton airports this evening, together with their physios, coaches, doctors, dieticians, chefs, masseurs, psychiatrists, and trainers, kit men and probably also comfort women.

How is my jingoistic friend Romeo enjoying the football competition? I see Suarez's team has lost none of its bite.

How did Rebecca Brooks get off? She, chief exec, never discussed phone tapping with her manager and sometime lover Coulson? Pull the other one.

"How do you know?"
"What are we paying these people to do for us?"
"What's the basis for this story? Will it stand up?"

-"Trust me, you don't want to know".

I don't think so, by any stretch.

@McTag,
At least we will find out how much of a stiff upper lip Coulson has.

Private Eye consistently referred to Murdoch as the Dirty Digger right from the start of his operations in the UK. He uses a method of selling flattened out wood pulp with ink stainings that Frank Harris invented in the late 19th century.

Emily Maitlis nearly managed to show us her bottom on Newsnight last night whilst discussing the tragedies in Iraq and Syria. (Pass the sick bag Alice).

Serious concerns that hell really does not have the fury to match that of a woman scorned.

The noise should have been made when she was appointed to her posts. What followed was not only predictable but inevitable.

@spendius,

I saw that too. I like Emily Maitlis' bottom. I think we should see more of it.

Maybe I'll get a Private Eye this week. Coulson must be fuming while the lady goes back to her farm and racehorses in the Cotswolds. She can enjoy a glass of chablis in the summer evenings there, while he ruminates over their joint misdeeds at his leisure in chokey.

Can someone enlighten me about the cookie debate?

@tsarstepan,

The Jaffa Cake problem? I don't know what it is about.

Maybe eating a biscuit (never "cookie") from a packet without first offering one to everyone else.

Guilt.

Coulson might be taking one for the team.

@spendius,

Could be. Murdoch has an AWFUL lot of money, and Coulson's retirement looks like being long.

@McTag,
I think, Mac, that they are all caught in a mechanism which they neither understand or can do anything about and if you or I were similarly enmeshed we would likely have done what they did.

And not just those in the dock. The politicians, the judiciary, the police, the newspapers, the hacked, the readers. All of them. £100 million, a conservative figure, is a sweet jam pot to be circling around.

Where the money went and what it was used for, and why, is interesting enough.

The Establishment lost its nerve in the sixties. TV did for it.

At least England got to Brazil in the first place, unlike the jocks, taffs and paddies..Smile
I see some people are calling for Hodgson to be sacked after flopping at the World Cup, and although i can see their point I think he ought to be left in charge until after the Euros in 2 years time and THEN sacked if he flops again. (ie give him adequate rope)
