Is the House of Lords the rubber stamp that Australias senate is? Do they actually perform a real function?

Besides acting as the second chamber, the House of Lords also holds judicial powers: it is the highest court of appeal in the UK.(Though not all of them, only the "Law Lords".)

Extra-mural, presumably.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?

The Shadow knows.

F***in* Nora.

Karaoke is bad enough without some t88t getting up and doing My Way.

Is that the world's worst song or what?

Yes, you are right. It IS the world's worst song.

Heard an attempt last night by two people duetting on "Islands in the Stream" as recorded by Kenny Rodgers and Dolly Parton...not a bad effort, but the male chickened out of an attempt at the harmony line after the key change. Not an easy one. And written by Barry Gibb, my goodness.

Hey I heard in the pub last night that Dolly Parton is coming to an arena near me. That would be fun to see. I may try to get tickets.

Concert is on 20th March.

Please advise by PM- I'll probably go to the box office on Monday.

Tumble out of bed and stumble to the kitchen
Pour myself a cup of ambition
Yawn and stretch and try to come alive

There ya go, mcT...

Sang in a tremulous, Dolly stylee, with cushions down my bra...

No charge.

Good morrow.

Re Dolly Parton - I think it's sold out Mac. A friend of mine is going to see her. Yeah I'm quite jealous actually, she has a beautiful voice.

Still not found a car, getting fed up with it now.

One I can have a nice cushiony ride in along the undulating country lanes preferably with leather upholstery, white wall tyres and a walnut dashboard.

Hey we had some Spring- warm weather, balmy breezes, very nice.

Now, we've got high winds, snow, sleet, ice and rain.

Today I drove down from Edinburgh through the lot. Brrr chilly.

They've backtracked on the local forecast steadily since the middle of last week when they predicted snow on a large scale here. Now it's just rather cold rain. If they can't get it right a week ahead, how can we be sure that global warming will make the temperature rise by 4 degrees by mid century?

Hundreds, maybe thousands, of scientists are agreed on it. That should be good enough for all but the most corrosive and cynical minds.

If you don't trust scientists who do you trust?

It's the old, old story Clary. Self interest determines which side people take.

That is the sort of cynical and paranoid approach that Adam Curtis exposed as at the root of our present culture. I don't believe it's true, that although self-interest is there, it can be mitigated or even negated by other things. I am not taking sides in the global warming issue, but I would consider it wasteful to have a 4x4 or heat my whole house to 24 degrees or leave taps dripping. That's not self interest, because it isn't about the money, but my upbringing which deplored waste.
