I like the Welsh, they've got guts, remember 'Zulu'?
And if I was welsh myself i'd feel insulted that Prince Charles was made 'Prince of Wales'..

@Romeo Fabulini,
That the heir-apparent of the British monarch gets the title of "Prince of Wales" is done since 1301.

@McTag,

I bloody hate the way the Welsh, and the Scots, insist on bi-lingual signs. Queen Street Station in Glasgow is plastered with incomprehensible verbiage.
Gateway to the Highlands, my arse. Few up there speak it.
And if you drive your car into Wales, suddenly the motorway signs (which you're supposed to be able to read quickly) are redoubled in complexity, mostly with incomprehensible words. Don't tell me folks in Wales don't know what HALT or EXIT mean. Enough with the mickey mouse language. It's okay for the tourist trade, but keep it off the roads.

@McTag,
You'll have the very same in all countries with several language (Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Austria ...).

Last year, I noticed on a Belgium motorway the same town written in three different ways within ten kilometres (French, Flemish and German) - because the motorway crosses regional borders. (The Belgiums use just one language, though.)

@Walter Hinteler,
Ah, a sore point. On a train from Lille to Aachen through Belgium, we were informed in three languages that the buffet car was open, and where it was to be found, and God knows what else because I stopped listening after a bit, and the entire message took about ten minutes to deliver.

There was a discussion in the Daily Mail's letters page a couple of weeks ago when an Englishman said he was fed up when filling in some forms because he had to tick the 'British' box.
He said he wished there was an 'English' box to tick because he thought of himself as English, not British.
Some people agreed with him and some didn't.
I was born and bred in England and don't mind ticking the British box, because together the English, Welsh, Scots and Irish have stood shoulder-to-shoulder on battlefields for centuries and civilised half the world..Smile

PS- The British army at Agincourt consisted of English, Welsh, Scots and Irish troops, and Shakespeare includes some of them in the play 'Henry V'-
Cpt. Fluellen – a Welshman
Cpt. Macmorris – an Irishman
Cpt. Jamy – a Scot

Incidentally Henry V himself was born in Monmouth, Wales, which technically made him a Welshman as he says in the play-
Fluellen- "I do believe your majesty takes no scorn to wear the leek
upon Saint Tavy's day"
King Henry V- "I wear it for a memorable honour;
For I am Welsh, you know, good countryman"

Women should be asked what they want when it comes to sport, to get more taking part and to close the gender gap, Sports Minister Helen Grant says.

Women should be offered "what works for them", whether that be more traditional hockey or athletics, or ballet, gym and cheerleading, she told the Telegraph.

Ms Grant also urged broadcasters to show more women's sport, saying a "behavioural change" was needed.
She added women did not have to feel "unfeminine" when they took part.

What a load of bollocks, and typical of this Tory government's attitude to women. Hockey, athletics, ballet, gym and cheerleading?
Pile of crap. What about football, rugby, or cricket? Popular sports, sports men play.

@izzythepush,
Mrs Grant has obviously not read Anthony Ludovici's book: Woman.

And he was a conservative.

@spendius,
It's ridiculous, she says women should not be subject to stereotypical sports choices then gives a list of said stereotypes that they could do.

@izzythepush,
She's only a token Izzy. She was a "jolly hockey-sticks" sort of girl at school.

I went to an all boys school. Thank goodness.

... and Gibraltar! (Well, Georgia, too. And Germany and Poland)

The "favourable draw" for England is San Marino, Lithuania, Estonia, Slovenia and Switzerland.

I see Cameron's in Aberdeen today, wooing the Scots.

Good luck with that. Lectures from self-satisfied, overfed Tories always go down well up there.

A lot of Scots want to break away from England and become an independent country. Same with the Welsh, a lot of them want to be independent too.
Is independence a good idea?
What would be the pros and cons?
