Is it not about sweaty lesbians in a dull low-budget drama with minimal plot lines?

I don't know yet. The original was a hoot. Plots are not on my agenda now. They have all been aired. It is how they are done.

I watched Simon Schama about the Jews last night.

In a self-improver that is only to be expected.

The truth is you were sitting on your arse on the couch. Schama's job is to make people think that such disgraceful activity is respectable.

@izzythepush,

The material is good, and this is only 1 of 5, but Mr Schama's performance as presenter is not to my taste. Curate's egg, then.
Interesting background detail about Sigmund Freud.

@spendius,

Plenty, rich and varied, particularly dealing with his interests and researches into the history and character of the descendants of the Tribes of Israel.

@McTag,
But every tribe can be subjected to that treatment?

Was Lehman Bros. mentioned?

Did he go into what Spengler called the Magian Soul?

I'll give it a try tomorrow if I have time. I enjoyed his art series except for that weeping looking at the Rothkos.

This is only #1 of 5, Spendy, we've barely got up to David and Goliath and Herod's temple.

By the way, it's on again tonight, late.

Lehman Bros and Bernie Madoff may come later, but I doubt it. His mind is on greater things.

@McTag,
Did you see the programme about violin collectors.

A modern concert violinists cannot afford to own the best violins, the Strads in particular. It seems the wood from Cremona only gives its best after 150 years. Everything else is deemed inferior. And the Strads have all been bought up.

So the concert violinist, at least for the big gigs, has to borrow a Strad from one of the collectors. They are From £10 Million. An owner of an engineering giant in Japan has a couple of dozen Strads and some of another make from the same period.

So to get into the Bigtime a violinist has to borrow his or her tools. Which, in effect, gives the collectors power over who gets in and who doesn't. The upcoming violinist has to persuade the collector and they were all mature gents.

So I suppose we will be seeing a lot of young lady violinists in the future. We were shown one very nice young lady making application to an American collector in what can only be described as a naff mansion. I dare speculate that she pulled it off.

It applies to other things. Amps for example. Microphones. But not involving millions as these violins do.

A bit like Old Trafford being loaned to the Rugby establishment.

@spendius,

Yes I saw it. Fascinating.

I've still got it on my recorder. I have mentioned it to multiple people.

@spendius,

Two people in the orchestra I attend have made violins and cellos.

One has made the beautiful pair of cellos played by him and his wife.

He's a luthier king.

@vonny,
That lady comment reminded me of one I heard in the pub. The highlights of the Test Match were on the big screen. The Aussie batsman, Shaun Watson, was hit just behind the ear with an 88 mph fizzing bouncer and was on the ground for a while. A bar stool bonny opined- "That might teach him a bit more sense".

@vonny,
I saw her point too. No matter how much kudos, cachet and cash comes from being a top class batsman they are accompanied by interludes of intense pain and suffering inflicted in cold blood.

Nuff said, proof Hodgson should look at the determination in the lower divisions and get shot of millionaire dilettantes like Rooney.

@izzythepush,
If you allow that Prem squads consist of 25 players the lower divisions are like the ones who come in 500th, or later, in the Great North Run.

Saw something astonishing in the paper yesterday: a Dutch court has found the Dutch government guilty of failing to protect Bosnian muslim refugees in a UN "safe haven" in Sarajevo, which was manned by Dutch troops, 11 years ago. The Serbian Army took 11,00 men and boys out and shot them.
This must be a game-changer for UN military recruitment. I think it is a good development. This was a shameful and horrible dereliction of duty.
