@Walter Hinteler,
Lizbeth doesn't seem to be much amused when the golden UK girls and boys march in ...

@spendius,

I think I missed a bit, I was watching Daniel Barenboim at the Proms before that.
No doubt there will be many TV repeats of the highlights.

I thought the whole thing was amazingly good, well staged, well filmed, and a terrific concept.

@McTag,
I have to admit that I enjoyed all the mixed in Tom Foolery. Im fatigued with all the celebratory crap that seems to take over the collective mind at all these types of events.

I taped it for future ref but then I saw our ON DEMAND segment from NBC will preserve it for us.

SAlt Lake, VAncouver, Veijing and La were total bores compared to this. Really creative
Congrats

@farmerman,
It seems to have gone down well over here except for one Tory MP, (a guy who went to a stag party dressed as a nazi) who complained about its multiculturalism.

@izzythepush,
I would have invited Dylan to sing Ring Them Bells Okinawa style.

It was a bit Grauniad I thought. And a staging of an Eleusinian welcome ceremony on the lines of the original lighting of the torch from the heat of the sun would have been more artistic. With slings of gold rings instead of triangles to tinkle the accompaniment oceanically. Long white robes with frilly edges and symbolic gem studded embroidery and flowers in their hair.

As if they float across the ground and disguise the fact they have legs which, I'm afraid, will be all too apparent in the days ahead.

@izzythepush,
Id say that you guys are very comfortable in your post empire skin.
Comptred to this one, all pevious olympics Openings were cheap travelogues. Anybody who can celebrate Voldemorte along side the stanard literary pantheon members, or could use Rowan Atkinson to spoof an event with his deadbeat approach.
I'd've declared it "watcheable" on my blog

@spendius,
It left the non Brit withe the opinion that the Olympic rings were first wrought in britains Iron Age. I thought that quite clever.

Dylans voice , today, sounds like a 2 stroke weed whacker with water in its tank.

Well done Brits, the opening ceremony was just beautiful and breathtaking.
Best part was the Queen & James Bond though - what a hoot!

As it was pure chattering class liberal syrup and cod jolly I am not surprised at you expressing that opinion fm.

The parade consisted of 100% ruthless people. And the same with the plethora of committees which has been working on the logistics for a few years whilst eating and drinking from various grants and impositions.

@farmerman,
Hey fm-- the commentator has just used the words "historic decision" about the task of a judge in the white-water rafting, which looks to be one of the safest methods ever devised for man taking to the waters, in regard to whether one of the frenetic performers had touched a pole with his shoulder or something equally ridiculous.

Compared, say, to the historic decision of Robert not to pull out on the occasion of Charles Darwin's conception. You have once intimated that you have been faced with such a decision. And don't ask me to cite my evidence because it's on my bookmarks.

What a shame our women sprint cyclists crossed in the wrong place, then the Chinese did it in the final.
Well, they should have known.

Women drivers.

It's never been off the agenda. "If you don't take it you won't make it" Ben Johnson was told. All samples are stored 8 years to give the testers time to catch up with the trade. So all medals are provisional.

Science has turned sport into a farce. A taste of things to come.

I once scored a decent break at snooker and my pals accused me of secretly practising which they consider to be cheating. Training is cheating. It has nothing to do with athletes. It's a mass of interlocking officials and media wassocks having a free ego trip. Load of bollocks.

The ladies 58Kg weightlifting was pretty funny. The heavyweights should be even funnier.

@spendius,
There's something funny happening imo. Media has put the Draghi Racing, the Putin the Shot and the Annan suicide on Ignore so it can concentrate on--- wait for it---canoe slalom and the double trap. They are keeping stumm on the Tender Trap.

All in the service of allowing media puffballs to look patriotic when they are actually in the business of ******* the country up. Some of them were slavering when it was drawn to their attention that we had won a medal in an event they had probably never heard of before.

The sooner we fence London off the better and jam its communication systems.
