@spendius,
Have you not read My Life and Loves by Frank Harris?

Dylan said "The key is Frank" and I can't think of anybody else he might have meant that chimed with the tenor of his poetry. Going from Bob Dylan's New Orleans Rag to To Ramona in a few months needs a key.

@spendius,
A long time ago. There's a book about eponyms called Stipple Wink and Gusset.

@spendius,

Anyone see that TV documentary this evening about 1960s town planning mistakes, particularly in Deptford?

Very sad, criminal really.

@McTag,

Anyone see Jools Holland's programme on London songs last night? Neither did I, but I watched the recording this morning. Marvellous.

Oh it really is a werry pretty garden
And Chingford to the east it can be seen
With a ladder and some glasses
You could see to Hackney Marshes
If it wasn't for the 'ouses in between

@McTag,
I saw most of it Mac. It was quite good. A pleasant change from the maudlins of X-Factor and Britain's Got Talent and suchlike tripe.

The Sultans of Swing was my standout track.

@spendius,

Funnily enough there were two programmes about London songs on that evening, and they both featured Dire Straits playing "Sultans of Swing". And Mark Knopfler comes from Newcastle. But he saw the eponymous Sultans in London.

@McTag,
Just to let you all know, Theo Walcott is a former student of Saints footballing academy, as is Alex Oxdale-Chamberlain for that matter.

@izzythepush,
THat was a narrow squeak. England were poor, tho' the meeja are bigging them up.
Good luck though. They might get better...indeed they're going to have to get better, to make any progress.
If Milner is the answer, I'm sure I don't know what the question is.

When you think that Gomez is keeping Klose out of the German team....

@McTag,
I don't think about such things Mac. I think about the betting.

Spain 5/2, Germany 11/4, France 7--1, England 12--1, Russia and Portugal 14--1, Holland 25--1 and bigger the rest. Which is quite punter friendly. I assume there's a busy market.

To win Cup. I'm inclining to Germany.

Get down to the bookies Mac with £50 and see a whole other way of watching football. And tell everybody.

@McTag,
Yeah, but it's so good that all the gobshites are being quiet. Like most, I've got low expectations. I think we'll make it past the group stage, but that's about it.

@izzythepush,

So England lost on points, and class, but won on goals allowed.

So far, so good. Bring on the Italians.

@McTag,
They squandered themselves trying to beat long-armed Joe from too far.

Do you think Leveson adjourned for the sycophant festivities wherein bankers and media cheeses make merry with their gilded doxies?

We're all in this together Mac.

@spendius,

I have no idea. I know that lawyers like to award themselves plenty of holidays, and adequate refreshers.

Apropos of nothing much, have you ever heard the expression, "a day with Bacchus, a night with Venus, and a year with Mercury"?

@spendius,

To the best of my knowledge, it's never moved.

What if Greece beat Germany tonight? Frau Merkel will never get permission to put a rescue package together.
