@Ionus,

Our radio sports report said Oz had to prepare a wicket in Perth that would suit their seamers.

I don't know what this means, but good luck anyway. Of avoiding another innings defeat, I mean.

@Dutchy,

Congratulations Spendi, your boys showed who is the better side in this series.

It's no good congratulating me Dutch. I just sit and watch the silly sods torture themselves. I find it entertaining. They're all mad as far as I'm concerned. Even my genetic connections to what you call "my boys" is unlikely to be much different from those of "your boys". I'd find it hard to believe I had no transported ancestor. Especially in the female line. The male side seems dominated by tolerance and a law abiding docility and easy-going lethargy.

Let's face it--half way through the afternoon session in hot humid conditions close-of-play must seem a long way off. And not just for the players.

Mac's idea of preparing a seamer's wicket for the next matches has already been discounted. It would have been the first thing to be considered. Not doing that was to take account of Mr Anderson who can cause havoc on a pitch of such a nature. And a spinner's paradise is the last thing Australia needs. A part-time spinner got Australia's vice-captain out for goodness sake's. I expect more flat tracks and better batting.

I take nothing for granted at this game. Try a day with the Barmy Army. Dig England on the cheap. And no intimate body searches at airports.

Who do you support when Australia play Holland?

When December comes around, I usually buy a few magazines, to get into the festive spirit mainly, to sample their seasonal output. This is usually successful, if patchy.
I usually get the Spectator and The Oldie, and yesterday I bought those and Private Eye too.

Anyway, I'm telling you this because althought The Spectator is a shadow of its former self, The Oldie has improved a lot. I was charmed and entertained by the poetry competition at the back, which alone was worth the purchase price in my view. Or maybe I was just in the right mood. Who could have predicted they'd print a tale of a London bicycle in the style of John Masefield's Cargoes?
Genius, twisted, but genius still.

And it has taken you how long to discover this magic?

Too long. It doesn't bear thinking about.

Spendy, I've got a bone to pick with you. Piqued by your Corrie comments, I had a look at this evening's episode for about ten minutes. A load of people I didn't recognise were gawping at some fires and screaming. But not in a good way. Ena Sharples would have dealt with it better, probably starting by slapping the hysterics round the chops, then organising the rescue squads.

@McTag,
I don't look at it that way Mac.

It did take half an hour for the first emergency service to arrive.

@margo,

They can't recall Glenn McGrath or Lillian Thompson. Is Shane Warne really coming back?

@margo,
I can't find any record of Holland playing Australia. But if they did who would Dutch support?

Quote:
The Dutch cricket team is a national cricket team representing the Netherlands. It is administered by the Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond (Royal Dutch Cricket Association) which is based in Nieuwegein in the centre of the country and is older than many renowned cricket clubs in the West Indies, Australia, and New Zealand.

Cricket has been played in the Netherlands since at least the 19th century, and in the 1860s was considered a major sport in the country. Many other sports (notably football) have long since surpassed cricket in popularity amongst the Dutch, and today there are around 6,000 cricketers in the Netherlands, making it the 25th most popular sport. The first national association, the forerunner of today's Royal Dutch Cricket Association, was formed in 1883 and the Netherlands achieved Associate Membership of the ICC in 1966.

The Dutch team has taken part in all eight ICC Trophy tournaments, winning the competition in Canada in 2001 and finishing as runners-up twice (in 1986 and 1990). The Netherlands have also participated in the 1996, 2003 and 2007 Cricket World Cups, and from 1996 onwards entered the English domestic NatWest Trophy competition (and its successor, the C&G Trophy). In 2004 they played first-class cricket as part of the ICC Intercontinental Cup, drawing with Scotland in Aberdeen and then going down to an innings defeat against Ireland in Deventer.

In 2005 the Dutch team beat the UAE to finish fifth in the ICC Trophy, a slightly disappointing result but one which meant that they qualified for the 2007 World Cup and would gain full One Day International status from 1 January 2006 until the 2009 ICC Trophy.

That's an easy one margo, having lived in the greatest Country on earth for 60 years, I think I can class myself as a fair dinkum Aussie and would support the baggie green team. Wink

Tico didn't have much to say, did he, creeping round like that.
And Spendy and Smorgs have gone all bashful.
Anyone done any Christmas shopping yet? I haven't.
We've got a concert tomorrow.
I've done a very nice savoury mince for tea.
The snow has melted.
Hooray.
